I got a tasting cake today and no one liked any of them. I got raspberry mousse, hazelnut, strawberry mousse and coure la creme. They think we should get the fruit filling and the fudge instead of the mousse fillings, I think mousse is so much more formal. I don't know I guess I have had fruit/fudge filling in birthday cakes since I was 4, I just think mousse is fancier. But it seems to be just me. Tell me honestly, what do you girls think. Is mousse more wedding appropriate or is fruit fillings or fudge filling just as wedding appropriate?

Re: Cake issues...
You should just go with what you like and what you feel your guests would like more. I've seen and heard of couples having all types of fillings in their wedding cake so it's basically whatever you like.

If you want moose i say you get moose. Its your decision. I wouldnt go with fudge filling personally, try moose or pudding. Fruit filling is good.

Re: Cake issues...
Since it is your wedding and you are paying for everything, you should go naturally with what feels right to you. However, if the cake tasting didn't go well with everyone, you may have to deal with uneaten cake at your wedding. This means either people will touch a few bites of the cake or not eat at all based on the critique today. It really depends on who you went with to your cake tasting. If you want with family and friends, def consider their critiques since it will be served to the guests. Honestly, if your family & friends are not used to mousse, it may not be the wisest choice to serve that at the wedding. You can get a chocolate filling similar to mousse like a chocolate ganache.

Re: Cake issues...
Do they have any other fillings/cake samples you can taste? Maybe it was just those four things that didn't sit well. . .I went to a cake tasting in Oregon (with a friend who got married there 2 years ago), and we tried at LEAST 10 different filling/cake combos. Chocolate is always safe, as is cannoli filling. FH and I are getting 1/2 fresh strawberries, 1/2 cannoli to satisfy everybody's tastes.

To me, all wedding cakes taste the same. I wouldnt worry about it. But if you are very concerned, go with what most people have at their weddings.

I dont want you to think Im being indifferent to cakes, but I think usually by the time the cake comes, many people are stuffed to the core with food and booze and dont always finish the cake.

Re: Cake issues...
Get the fillings that you and FH like. Since Im not much of a cake person, I told FH he can pick any flavor he wants because its our wedding!
I think we are going with canoli and chocolate mousse

Re: Cake issues...
I would do the mousse as well, but I think we have similar tastes in matters like these.
I've had fruit fillings at some weddings, and they weren't awful though, just not what I will probably pick. But I've never heard of fudge! Like a pudding or something?
