I read somehwere (of course, I can't remember exactly where) that decorating the cake with fresh floweres is not safe. I know that I have seen so many cakes decorated with fresh flowers...so I am wondering if there is any truth to that. I am thinking about doing that with my cake.

Re: cake question
How could that be? People have been doing it for years and years. I don't believe it.

Re: cake question
I had fresh gardenias on my cake, and no one died.
Some flowers are more dangerous than others - talk to your florist about it. They can also put a plastic leaf backing (that you wouldn't even notice) on the flowers so the actual flower and stems aren't touching the cake.

Re: cake question
i think that some flowers are unedible and toxic so when decorating cakes they stick to 'edible' flowers such as roses and ones along those lines.

I read the same info in Peggy Post's Wedding Ettiquette book

Re: cake question
Certain flowers shouldn't be eaten, though I'm not sure exactly which ones they are. I believe that the big issue with flowers on cakes is that you shouldn't use those which have been treated with pesticides, though I'm not sure if florists/caterers actually follow this rule.
