Edited to update: In my original post, below, I discussed how I was not happy with the bakery that my caterer is using...however...we decided to just go with it based on reviews. Now we find out that, even though my cake is 'included' in the cost of the wedding, if I want upgrades like quilting patter on 2 tiers and fondant on the cake instead of buttercream, it is going to cost me $600!!!! In upgrades???? Is this normal???? H E L P!!!!
My original post: Hi gals. So, I am getting married at the east wind and our package includes a cake from rolling pin bakery. My fiancé and I went to rolling pin to pick up a few samples to taste a few weeks ago. With all honesty, we were not impressed at all. We had all different kinds and the cakes had no flavor to them and some of the fillings had that artificial taste to them. So, my question for past east wind brides is: were u happy with ur cake? Or future brides: are I having a better experience with them? Post any info u have or even what flavors u ordered. TIA

Re: East Wind Brides - Cake Question
Hey Chica,
Here is what I tried so far:
Chocolate cake with raspberry mousse filling
Marble cake with chocolate mousse filling
Vanilla cake with lemon filling
Vanilla cake with a lemon buttercream filling
Chocolate Cake with White Chocolate Mousse filling
NONE of them were good enough and I am not a picky sweet eater!!!

I tasted some of their things at a Bridal Showcase back in January, and I thought everything was great! We are still taking full advantage of our tasting that is included though
We are trying the following tomorrow:
Vanilla with Cannoli Red Velvet with Cream Cheese Vanilla with Banana Custard
I will keep you guys informed after we taste!

Re: East Wind Brides - Cake Question
***Update***
FH and I tried our samples a few minutes ago ...
Vanilla cake - FH was not overly thrilled with the vanilla cake. It was actually Angel Food. I liked it a lot, Angel Food is one of my faves!
Cannoli filling - DELISH!!! Can't really go wrong with that!
Custard with Bananas - Not bad. I think this filling with the cake works well for a summer wedding. The custard itself though, is pretty much your standard vanilla pudding.
Cream Cheese filling - OMG!!! I wish we had the money to upgrade!!! This with the Red Velvet was awesome!! If money was not an option, this would totally be our first choice!!
Ok, I think that's about it, I hope it helps!

Re: East Wind Brides - Cake Question
Based on your mini review, I might have to go get some red velvet with cream cheese. How much is the upgrade?

Re: East Wind Brides - Cake Question
I didn't ask about the upgrade pricing yet ... The girl who helped me today said to send an email to the owner, he is the main person who handles wedding cakes. If you get a price before me, let me know, and I will do the same if I get to him first!

Re: East Wind Brides - Cake Question
I am getting married at east wind in Aug (North Hampton room) as well. When do you go try the cakes? Did you pick your menu yet?
I feel like I have so much to do :)

Re: East Wind Brides - Cake Question
You have to call rolling pin bakery and order samples to pick up and try. Then, you make an appointment with east wind to order flavors and design and go over pricing.

Have you tasted the cakes yet? Don't go by what I am saying. You may like something they have. I bet you can make a deal with East Wind if you needed to.

Well, I've tried their slices and cupcakes at a couple of bridal shows and haven't liked them but I was hoping that they were just stale samples they were handing out.

Re: East Wind Brides - Cake Question
Just another little update for you ladies ...
We went to a wedding at East Wind last night. The cake was very fresh, and pretty tasty! The bride and groom chose vanilla with strawberry filling and chocolate mousse, and buttercream frosting. We liked it.
Just a heads up: don't choose baked clams for your cocktail hr! Lol
