Cake Ribbon (not bling)

If I want to do ribbon on the bottom edge of each tier on my cake, will standard ribbon from Michaels or AC Moore do the trick? (maybe 1/2' thick?) (haha i rhymed...)

I got the bling and it's 1 inch thick.

We were told to use 1 1/2' ribbon, I could not find the correct color but wound up getting 1'.

We used 1 1/2 inch satin ribbon from Michael's

what are you using for your cake? butter cream or fondute? white or dark frosting?

we were told that regular ribbon would bleed on the cake and to get water proof ribbon from a florist

im looking for some myself! keep in mind, it needs to be waterproof. the fat from the icing will seep through and be soaked up by the ribbon.. ick!

Check with your bakery. Regular ribbon might bleed or stain depending on what your cake is made of.

It is buttercream... hmm i had never even considered the bleed-factor! thank you for letting me know!

Does anyone know if buttercream poses an issue? Since buttercream tends to create a less fancy-looking cake, I wanted to dress it up a bit with the ribbon, but I also don't want it to look like a sloppy mess if it's going to make the white frosting red/burgundy!

Le sigh...
