Tremendous Cake Dilemna (or maybe because I'm sticking to my diet and subconsciously rebelling)... What kinds of cakes are you planning to have? Fondant or Buttercream? Fresh Flowers or Sugar Flowers? Cake Jewelery or a miniature Bride & Groom? (definitely hungry) Please post your pictures...

My favorite feature on our cake was the cake itself... We wanted to be different and different we were. It was a big hit. We went against what the 'norm' was and it went over like crazy! We had carrot cake with cream cheese filling & frosting! YUMMY!!!!

before you choose fondant for your icing, I HIGHLY recommend that you taste it first!

Nope! It was actually one of the choices!
Ours is wrapped up soooo good I hate to break in and take a piece of our 1 year top of our cake...sooooo we're going to the same bakery this weekend and buying a cake! We're going through withdrawls!!!

I love carrot cake but, FH doesn't so he ruled that down
I like buttercream better than fondant but, the smoother look is easier accomplished by using fondant.
FH doesn't like buttercream either but, he didn't put his foot down on that one! He's trying to get the actual inside to be Duncan Hines. I told him we're not paying extra because he isn't going to eat the cake anyway!
As for flowers, I like them both. A lot of times though edible flowers can be more pricey than fresh ones since they are difficult to make. My friend's mother is a cake baker for a living and made her the most beautiful wedding cake I've ever seen!

Be careful with the fondant...it's made with almonds so if anyone has a nut allergy beware! (We were glad someone told us this since my FMIL and one of my BM's are very allergic).

Fresh flowers look so nice. And a filling can make or break the cake! The carrot cake with cream cheese filling sounds delish - I doubt FH would go for it though.
I'm noshing on carrot sticks and absolutely salivating over the idea of carrot cake with cream cheese filling and cream cheese icing. This dress had better look AMAZING!

We had buttercream (pics in review and profile) and it was smooth...IMO it looked like fondant. A good baker can do anything...

I had a Fondant cake with sugar flowers and a Lenox cake topper on the side. The filling was: chocolate cake with hazelnut filling imbibed with Frangelico --- tasted just like the Baci chocolates - here's a picture
Then my sons Vanilla with chocolate pudding. Fondant icing.

PLEASE be careful with the nuts! Just make sure you let anyone who might be allergic know if you have something they shouldn't eat. DH is deathly allergic and it scares the poop out of me! :)
So back to cakes! We had choc. cake with raspberry mousse. It was delicious! We had fresh flowers and a cake topper. I have to say the cake topper might have inched out the other wonderful parts of the cake only because people freaked to see how much it looked like me!
