Had our cake tasting last night at Francesco's and decided on our cake! I know this is a small check, but I was happy to cross one more thing off the list.
Sandy at Francesco's was really helpful and easy to work with...the whole tasting lasted like 15 minutes. We looked at about 300 pictures of wedding cakes in their portfolio--and I didn't see even one that I liked. Thankfully, I'd brought some pics from pinterest to use as a reference. This is the one we chose. [Pic in album since I couldn't get it to upload here--sorry!]
We're paying extra $ for the design because it's not the standard scroll that's included in the package. So, I hope they can make it look like it does in the picture. Sandy said 'every cake looks good on pinterest,' which didn't exactly inspire confidence, lol. Once we have a florist, we can choose fresh flowers for the top. They are letting us do a 4-tier instead of a 3 tier, but each layer will just be skinnier than they'd normally make it. I told him I just want to keep it simple and elegant. We might even skip the blingy cake topper--which will make FH happy, lol.
Btw, not sure if this will help anyone, but we went with the basic yellow cake (hopefully it will be more moist and fresh than the sample was) with vanilla custard and raspberry filling. The carrot cake with cream cheese frosting was good as was the cannoli filling, but we felt like the custard had more mass appeal.

I am a WM manor bride too and we had our tasting at Francesco's also, we were very happy! We actually chose a cake from his portfolio but added some fondant snowflakes so we had to pay extra for that. The cakes were delicious though!! We are also using them for our favors. Sandy is a doll!!!

I liked that Sandy seemed very honest. He even talked me out of an expensive groom's cake I asked about. I knew I was being picky about the design. There were lots of pretty cakes in their portfolio, but they were all fondant and the one thing I knew was that I wanted buttercream. As long as they can make the cake resemble the pic I gave Sandy, I will be happy. I've been at so many weddings where I didn't even eat the wedding cake because I was either too full or dancing when it was served. So, I'm not too worried about it tasting like the best cake ever, but I want it to look pretty. What kind of favors are they doing for you? I've been thinking about cake pops.... :)

We picked a cake that was buttercream. We are doing mini pies as our favors since my FH's last name is 'Py'.

Congrats! Any check counts! I'm actually not a big cake person. I would like it to taste decent and look pretty, but I'm not going to be too picky when choosing one.
