i always see pics with the cake topper next to the cake and not on top of it. and at my sister wedding they wouldnt put the cake topper on top of the cake...is this because they dont want to smoosh the cake or because they dont want it to fall off?? or is that like the new standard??

Re: cake topper on top of cake??
I spoke to one baker who said the limit was 1.5 lbs to be able to put the topper on the cake. That's pretty light.

I think it is because most of the 'cake toppers' are too heavy, my brother did the same thing....they should call it something else these days....like a cake sider????

I just got my wooden cake topper letters from ebay. It was great. Now I'm shopping for my crystals.

Re: cake topper on top of cake??
If you have a heavy cake topper ask the baker to put a pedestal into the top layer to hold it up. If not it will sink. My friends had a large Lennox one and by the time they cut the cake the bride and groom were knee deep.
