I was just wondering what everyone thought of this idea for something different. I saw it on a Oprah show-they had 2-tiered decorated cakes as a centerpiece at each table that would feed 10-12 people. Then the bride and groom had a wedding cake, only slightly smaller. I went to a bakery to price it and for my # of people everything would cost $650. I didn't think that was bad considering I wouldn't need to spend money on floral centerpieces.

Re: Cake/Centerpiece idea...
I think it a cute idea if you want to do something different since I dont think many people do this but here are the cons:
a)You can do as much visually with a cake as you can with flowers. May or may not be a factor for you.
b) I think there is something quaint about everyone eating from the cake that you cut.
c) Guests like to take flowers home.
d) Hard to have an elegant seated meal with a big cake starring everyone in the face all night. Also, some guest may be tempted to sample or touch the cake before desset time.

wow how funny .. my mom saw that and was telling me about it also. i was thinking of still doing the centerpieces i have planned - but then having the individual cakes brought out to each table maybe during dinner? do you have a picture of how the cakes looked?

I think it sounds like a really unique idea. Do the cakes sit there the whole time while they eat? I would love to see a picture.

These cakes were designed by Sam Godfrey of Perfect Endings. A unique idea, 'mini-cakes' are given to each table. Sam said he designed them to represent the flow of a wedding gown. Perfect for big families
I like that idea a lot

Re: Cake/Centerpiece idea...
I loved the idea of mini cakes. My cake lady quoted me some insanely high price though. I agree with the others - but don't keep them on the table all night - guests might lose their appetite staring at it, something might happen to them sitting out there for a few hrs.
I guess that throws off your centerpiece idea though!
