for those of you who had to purchase your own cakes,
where did you purchase from?
and
how much did you spend (how many people)?
i'm really confused, i found one place that would make a a simple 4 to 5 tier cake for 200 people for 600 bucks (with fondent). is this a good price? does anyone know any place that is a bit cheaper? i want to decorate the cake myself, so i would just need a simple, smooth, cream/beige ish colored cake.
can anyone help and or recommend a place? thanks!

If you can find a 4-5 tier cake for $200 I would jump on it. That is an amazing price. I was quoted $800 - $1600 for cakes for 160- 175 guests
Our cake was included but I would go see more than one bakery if yours is not included. You should have some kind of cost comparison and not just take one place at their word.
Sorry but mines from RH. My florist does have to decorate it though - not sure if thats extra $$$ for the florist?

Re: CAKES
I got my own cake (didn't like the halls). Mine will be fondant with sugar flowers and it was (much) more than $600 so I think it's not a bad price.

Re: CAKES
thanks so much for your replies.
i really want to find a bakery in the Westchester country area. i called a few other places today
they told me they can work with me, one place told me i can have as many teirs id like and as many fillings (for 600, and i told them 500) BUT i have to show them some cake pics. there is another topic also up about cakes, can you guys post some pics?
i think i want to go with a square shape, and possibly 5 tier. I want a cream colored fondent and i actually want to decorate it myself. i purchased a bunch of awesome things from ebay. please post pics here or the other topic, thanks so much in advance!

On the 07 board there is a 'post your cake' thread that we did recently. You can also search the bride's review board for cakes. lots and lots to look at.

Re: CAKES
i bought my own cake. $600 for 200 ppl IF its fondant is actually a great price. Fondant is $6-8 a slice on average for just about any place you will go to and some are even more. So it would normally cost you $1200
