Re: cakes
DEPENDS, if you get a fondant cake the average price is $6-8 per slice. Buttercream is about $1.50-2 a slice
i also ordered a cake from an outside place

Thats also similar to what I was quoted. They will take into consideration the shape/style you like and calculate how many servings you anticipate. HTH

Re: cakes
Usually the fancier cakes are the ones that are $10-12 a slice, so if you're not looking to spend that much, you're probably going to just get a simple cake..why do you want to go with another cake, is it because you want a prettier cake, or maybe a flavor that your RH doesn't offer?

Re: cakes
A friend of mine just started a baking business...I wanted to ask her to do a cake for my wedding, but since I'm inviting her as a guest I don't want her to do work for me. However, I did ask her to make chocolate chip cookies for my engagement party and they were amazing! I still hear raves about her cookies!
I don't know how much she charges, but here's her info if you or anyone is interested:

NOT ALL places will charge $10-12 for more complicated designs, well known cake artists such as colette peters, ben ron israel, sylvia weinstock which is actually more. But if a place charges $6-8 a slice then 6 will be for simple and 8 for complicated designs. I am doing a mad hatter cake which is a more complicated design and not paying $10 per slice, if i wouldve gone to colette like i had originally wanted to then it wouldve been $10-12 a slice for that design...hers are $8-10 a slice and then for more complicated designs its higher

Re: cakes
did they already show you the cakes? i was told we would handle that when we define the menu 2 months before hand. if you already went through the cakes with them, i am calling them to do so because i have ocd and i am having a hard time waiting until 2 months before, i really like early planning and knowing...

Re: cakes
i should mention, that i was figuring if i didn't like what was included i was thinking of upgrading, but i didn't like the figure $ they through out when we mentioned upgrading the cake (so thought maybe i would do an outside vendor, if i didn't like theirs)

Mine is probably $10-12 a slice and I'm using an outside baker. I didn't like the cakes East Wind had at all. Too plain and they didn't want to do the flavor I wanted.

Yup. I've always wanted the bakery I'm using to do my wedding cake (well, since the place opened). I have yet to have better cake.

if anything helen maybe use the guy i am using if you want to use an outside place. Or jackies cake boutique is real good, her work is amazing, just not sure how much she charges. Ive seen her alot on the food network and i have a feeling she might be a little more not sure though. BUT if your hall lets u upgrade using her and only paying a certain amount that would be less then that'd be a good idea
