Cakes -- How to start?

Cakes -- How to start?

I have a couple of bakeries I'm considering for the cake. I'm wondering how this works -- Do I call both and schedule some sort of meeting/tasting? Decide to work with one? How did all of you start out?

are you sure that your hall doesn't include the cake?

We're using an outside caterer and they gave me a list of bakers they recommend.

I have no clue... Ours was included with the hall, but I hear TONS of raves for Audreys in Sayville. They're an LIW vendor too! Give them a call I'm sure they could help.

I would suggest you get an idea of what you want it too look like, there are sooooo many styles, then go for the taste/flavor. You can have several tiers of different flavors, which is what we're planning on doing.

ok, then

1. pick a budget! they can get pricey

2. pick a style (round, square, etc.)

3. pick colors, or decorations (flowers, shells, whatever)

The size and therefore price of the cake will depend on the amount of people that are coming to the wedding.
Go thru the list they gave you, and call and ask what the starting price is for a cake for x-amount of people....that may help you narrow down to what you can afford. Try to narrow it down to two or three places, then you can go and having a tasting, and see thier photo albums....
