At what point in your wedding planning do you contact the bakery and go over your cake?
My wedding is 4 months away and Im just wondering when all you ladies did this?

I waited until after we went to select our menu at the RH to schedule the appt with the bakery. It was about 4 mos out. But if you're not sure, you can always just call them to ask what they recommend.

We did our tasting 2 months before the wedding. We had our cake included in our package with the Riviera so we just called Black Forest and set up the appointment. I actually went to the appt. with my MOH and Christina (the cake designer there) made us each a sample of the cake and filling (DELICIOUS!) and then we discussed cake design. If we had anything extra that was not included in the cost through the venue, than we had to pay for it that day (i.e. the fresh flowers on the cake).

We just did it at the 1 month mark.
ETA: You need to call at least a week ahead to schedule it.

Ok I called and they said about 6 weeks prior....next question Create A Cake in Port Jeff or Benkerts?? My RH gives me the choice of either

I think were meeting with our executive pastry chef the same time as were doing our food tasting, which is next month.
