I am trying to plan my hm and need ideas. We sre planning on spending about 3 days in LA, 2 or 3 days in San Fransisco, and 2-3 days driving up the coast. What is there to do on the drive up- where are th best places to stop and the best things to see? I am having so much trouble- I don't get how people plan tips where they have never been!!

hmm, Hearst Castle, Big Sur, Santa Monica, Monterey, Santa Cruz...to name a few.
I think 2 days (stopping for a night along the way) is probably good. Spend the extra time in SF, or take a day and head north of SF to Napa, Sonoma, Sausalito, Muir Woods, etc.

You think 2 days is enough for the drive? I am not sure how to plan it,but my parents said they did it for the view and they judged wrong and every time they passed something good it was dark and they couldn't see.
