Re: California question

i assume you plan on going to LA? i went there and it's nice and very touristy. i suggest spending only a few days there and go to SF instead, i find that there's so few things to do in LA versus SF. (but that's just my opinion)

Re: California question

I honestly prefer LA. I think it's amazing to rent a car and cruise around on Mulholland. FH and I visited and stayed at the Sunset Tower, which was a little on the pricier side, but right next door was The Standard and there were always parties going on! I love that city. Go shopping on Robertson. Drive along the Pacific Coast Highway. Go to Joan's on Third for brunch. Go to The Grove for shopping!!! And the farmer's market attached to it for a yummy lunch.

Re: California question

2 summers ago we went to LA for 4 days and San Diego for 4 days. In LA we stayed at the Ramada in West Hollywood. It wasn't luxurious but it was clean and the location was great. We were like 5 minutes from The Walk of Fame and everything over there and like 1 minute from Sunset. In San Diego we stayed at the Hard Rock which was AMAZING!! The location was fantastic, the hotel was perfect (we always love staying at the Hard Rock when we go away) and the city itseIf was so much fun. The Gas Lamp district had the best restaurants and bars. loved California so much, I can't wait to go back.

Re: California question

My mom is from Cali so I have been there many times but I never really liked LA... this isn't going to help if you are definitely going there, but we went to Napa a few years ago and FELL IN LOVE! We seriously didn't want to leave. If you ever consider going there, we stayed at the Chardonnay Lodge and it was so quaint and nice!

Re: California question

YOU MUST GO TO LA AND TO SAN DIEGO.

When you are in LA, you MUST stay The Farmer's Daughter. It is the BEST hotel in LA (IMHO). I've stayed there three times and each time is better than the next! They have a famous restaurant called Tart attached to it. If you've ever watched 'Run's House,' it's where Rev. Run's daughters frequently eat. One time we were there when they started filming. Celebrities stay there all the time b/c it is right across the street from the Farmer's Market and the Grove. Ideal for shopping and and dinners. All the other 'sights' (e.g., Rodeo Drive, UCLA, Grumman's Theater, etc.) are all within a $10 cab ride away, while you still have The Grove and the Farmer's Market at your fingertips! Definitely check out their website. Prices are reasonable too (I think I paid $160 for the night last August for 2 queen beds). It's cute and a bit rustic but tons of fun!

When you go to San Diego, you should definitely stay at the Holiday Inn, Bayside. It is a really great (and inexpensive) hotel. With a lot of these hotels, you can book online and pay in advance. As long as you don't think you'll cancel, you definitely get a much lower rate (but unfortunately it's not refundable if you do cancel, so make sure you're definitely going to go). Last August was my second time to San Diego and this time we did the SEAL tour. It was amazing! It's a trolley-like bus that drives around on land but then it also drives right into the water and becomes a boat! The first time I was in San Diego, we did the Old Town Trolley tour which was great! It was hop-on hop-off for two days and we basically saw anything and everything that San Diego had to offer us. YOU MUST DINE IN THE GASLAMP DISTRICT! It's like NYC transplanted to CA with much nicer weather!

We also went to the San Diego Zoo both times I was there which is DEFINITELY worth the money.

I went to Universal when I was in LA the first time which was worth the trip if you're an amusement park fan. Also, if you want a laugh, drive to Calabasas and check out the Kardashian owned stores, Dash and Smooch. We did that and we actually met Kourtney and Kendall. Not sure if you guys are as into E! television shows as I am, but this was definitely a treat.

FM if you have any questions!

Re: California question

My best friend is from Ventura, CA so I actually spent a couple of days with her and we wound up going to the Camarillo Outlets too for some discount shopping as well as to the Ventura County Fair (which happens only in August I think). We drove through Laguna Beach also, which was beautiful.

I also did a Stars Home and Grumman Chinese Theater tour the first time I went to LA which was quite entertaining.
