re calligrapher...

is $1.00/invite a usual price? I was quoted $1.25/invite by the person doing my invitations, and that is the computer calligraphy, not even hand-drawn. I was wondering if that is reasonable. I think I am going to call Ying Lee also. Thanks! :)JOY

Lots of caligrapher research here

$1.25 for computer is average price. Hand Caligraphy is usually $2.00 +. I have been quoted anywhere from $1.25 - $3.50 per envelope for hand caligraphy. Caligraphy by George is $1.50 per envelope (outside envelope only), but he may lower it if you have a very large order. He does a very nice job but only has one style - italic, which is the most common. I would've used him, but I wanted something more dramatic and artistic and will be using Mary Binder (she charges 70 Cents a line). I called about 6 places and got sample and prices. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Does the $1.25 include an inner envelope, or is that also a $1.25? Also did she say how long it takes for her to do them? Thanks!

have you tried yourself?

I was going to do a computer calligraphy font for my invites...until I ordered hand made invites and the woman put them in the envelopes for me (b/c they were tied with a rope and had a feather on it - it looked super nice - not cheesy as it sounds when I typ it) so I got a calligraphy pen and tried it - I had done a little bit in jr high...but when I tried...I was really good!! everyone commented on the writing...but really its all in the pen...I have only done the STD cards, so by the wedding invites I hope to be even better... you can got to CVS and get a felt tip pen to see how you do and then go out and buy the more expensive brand...Our cable was out one night and had no tv or internet, I finsihed 100 envelopes that night...

NM816/jen/anna

I didn't ask all the questions over the phone...The place in Oceanside is $1.25 for the outside envelope. She told me to make an appoinment to discuss details. She works out of the home. I also checked out Queens Bridal in Mineola on Jericho Tpke. It's 1.25 for black ink and 1.50 for colored ink. They have a book of sample fonts to choose from. It takes 2-3 weeks to complete. I didn't check out placecards. I'm also not having the inner envelope, so I'm not sure how much that would cost. I'll make the appt soon with the place in Oceanside and I'll give you the details.
