Calligraphy on Placecards????

Are the names on the placecards usually written in calligraphy?

I think traditionally they are (and for very formal weddings), but most brides are either writing them out themselves or printing them out at home. I'm gonna have my calligrapher do them in the same color ink as my invite

I'm going to have my invite place print them on the computer. It'll save some $$$

I'm going to write out my placecards... it will take me forever though because I have to concentrate so hard to make my handwriting that neat.. but I really want to do it myself.
