My friend, who is getting married in October, had her invitations done by a calligraphier and they came out amazingly! I originally bought clear mailing labels in which I was going to print out the addresses using a script font. My mother found out and swears it''s 'tacky.' Is it tacky? Also, I really want to use the calligraphy, but it''s $3.00 for the inner and outer envelope, which would be around $350 total. Which would you choose?

Re: CALLIGRAPHY Question
What about Inkspun- they charge like 89 cents for inner and outer envelopes. I think its mechanical caligraphy, so its printed by computer. But its way cheaper than the stuff done by hand.

Re: CALLIGRAPHY Question
I absoulutly love how Calligraphy looks, it's when people acutally took the time to make something look elegant. I think the script font from the computer looks just as beautiful I use it for my Christmas cards-

Re: CALLIGRAPHY Question
I plan on using A Fine Letter...they do beautiful work and the prices are great
i thought about doing the calligraphy and then i realized that if i want to keep this wedding on a decent buget then i should cut some corners that are not really nessasary and that happens to be one of the things that i am eliminating, so i will be typing the labels i think they will look fine, just think about what people do with the invitations after the wedding.....they throw them out so i dnt want to spend more money then what i have to

Re: CALLIGRAPHY Question
Yeah, now the newest thing apparently is calligraphy by machine (not person). My step aunt offered to do ours for free so we are going to take her up on it!

Re: CALLIGRAPHY Question
theres no way I can afford to get a calligrapher (even if it is a good price its something additional that I dont need) so I am just going to type them up on the computer and print them directly on the envelop- no clear labels just direct pritning.

Re: CALLIGRAPHY Question
I used the calligraphy and thought it was worth every cent. I got to choose the color I wanted and didn't have to worry about it finding the time to do it myself. I had a large guest list so for it worth the money. For my thank yous I did use the clear labels.

Re: CALLIGRAPHY Question
Try Wendy Trout at [email protected]. Her rates are much more reasonable. I used her:
Or, try Ink Spun - computer calligraphy.

Re: CALLIGRAPHY Question
I am going to do the clear labels. People are just going to throw out the envelopes anyway. Most people won't even keep the invitation. I think if you use clear labels, some people might not even realize that is what it is.

Re: CALLIGRAPHY Question
Why don't you just print them directly onto the envelope? That's what I did for my e-party and they came out GORGEOUS!
It is a real pain in the as$ though, setting up the printer and what not.. but if you have the patience they'll turn out awesome!

Re: CALLIGRAPHY Question
Personally, I would not use the clear labels. It's not so much that it's tacky, it's just that it lends itself to being much more informal than calligraphy. However, it doesn't mean that you have to spend hundreds of dollars on calligraphy. There are a lot of vendors out there that do computer or machine calligraphy for a lot cheaper than hand calligraphy.

Re: CALLIGRAPHY Question
I am either going to make clear labels, or just print them directly from my computer.
I know that the proper etiquete is to get them done by a calligrapher - but i think its a waste of time and money. I would rather spend that money towards something else. JMO
I really dont think that the guests bother looking at how their name was written - and the appearance of just an envelope. JMO - sorry if I offended anyone.

Re: CALLIGRAPHY Question
i am going to download my font, then have them done on a laser printer. to me it dosent make sense to spend a lot of money on something that will go straight to the trash. my coworker is foing to do the envelopes for me for free.

Re: CALLIGRAPHY Question
I actually do calligraphy myself, and I think it makes such a difference on the envelopes. I agree that the clear labels look tacky!! Although I love it done by hand, I think the computer calligraphy directly on the envelopes looks professional and elegant, too. I suggest that if you are going to pay someone money, get hand-written calligraphy. It's not worth it to pay someone else to get computer calligraphy printed on your envelopes when you can do it yourself with the right printer (ask friends, etc. and get some extra envelopes for trial and error). Good Luck!!
