CALLING ALL JERICHO TERRACE BRIDES

This email is related to an earlier post I did re: gratituity being taxed. Can you ladies who have have been or will be getting married at Jericho Terrace please tell me how they handled this issue. Did they tax the base price + gratuity OR was it (the legal way) base price plus tax, then adding the 18% gratuity on the base price. Please let me know thanks so much!

It is not legal for them to tax gratuity.

I went threw this and it is legal if they call it a service charge,they can tax it.I know i feel its bull s*** .We should be able to tip accordingly how we feel people performed.I really feel none of the workers ever see that 18% money anyway its most likely used for there pay.

I just looked at my Jericho Terrace contract. The way they have it written is that I agree to pay $x per person, plus 18% service charge, plus sales tax. Maitre d' gratuity not included. So essentially, there is a service charge, a tax, and a gratuity. I didn't even realize that until you posted this question. I don't believe that the service charge is going to be taxed though. The way I read it is that the gratuity will not be taxed, but I am not 100% sure.

I just went for a semi-final appointment and got my estimated bill. My contract has the # of ppl+price+18% service charge. The tax is the ON TOP of the #of ppl, price & service charge. I checked my figures and its a difference of $99. Is it legal now I'm wondering? They did list it as a service charge.

When my brother got married it was the same thing. They take the amount of people * your price + service charge + tax = your total per person. They told him that they charge tax on it because it is called a service 'charge' so with the play on words they can get away with it. Also they say it goes to more than just the waiters so it can not be considered a gratuity...who knows?????

the same thing with me....tax after service charge....i am actually making my final payment tonight and i might bring the issue up to make sure...but my service charge is 15%....when did you guys book at 18%???

Well my sister hasn't booked yet. When did you book to get 15%. That is a big difference. Good for you! :-)) Well thanks girls for the information. I guess we can't do anything about it from a legal standpoint, but at least I don't feel bad as if she was the only one they pulled this on.
