Calling all Latinas (or those marrying Latin men)!!!

Hi Chicas!!

Are any of you going to incorporate your family traditions (of FH's family) or themes into your wedding? My family is from Puerto Rico so i'm looking for a bi-lingual DJ that has a band also. I'd REALLY like to play some plena during the cocktail hour via live band. Actually Elegancia in Floral Park has a guitar trio...does anyone know anything about them?

As far as the Westbury Manor goes...we're pretty sure we're getting the Roast Pig for the cocktail hour (my family would go NUTS over that). Oh and i'm getting a Tres Leches cake from a place in Brentwood for my eparty.

What are the rest of my chicas (or chicos) doing?

me me!!!

FH is 100% argententine we are going to make sure our band can play tango we already discussed and they were liek yeah sure... but we need to confirm...

CH will have tons of meat carving stations and seafood

my family we are jewish.. obiviously NOT religious... but we OF course are doing the typical circle dances and chair lifting....

FH is 100% argententine we are going to make sure our band can play tango we already discussed and they were liek yeah sure... but we need to confirm...

I'm Puerto Rican and FH is Colombian. I'm defenitely going to have a latin dj, I just have to find a good one. Any suggestions? I just started planning my wedding and right now my time is consumed with finding a reception hall so I haven't really given much thought to what traditions I might incorporate into the wedding.

ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm Mexican and FH is DOminican!!!!

I am incorporating a lot. We are doing all the traditional gifts given during the ceremony (that's from my Mexican culture). We are looking into Bravura and I hear starlight express is good to as far as LAtin music.
We might hire a merengue/salse band of you just get a regular DJ.
Maybe cigar rollers

check out MJDOC12 review, she used elegancia and RAVED about them about how great they were and everything they did...im not even spanish and after reading her review i wanted to check them out lol

check out MJDOC12 review, she used elegancia and RAVED about them about how great they were and everything they did...im not even spanish and after reading her review i wanted to check them out lol

we already booked a band... the band had to be mostly american with just added touched from both cultures....

but thank you for your suggestions...

I'm Puerto Rican and DH is Italian. We had salsa at the wedding (of course) and DH even danced to a couple of songs (he learned). We had the lechon too at cocktail hour. It was a big hit! I honored by godparents with a corsage/botonierre (spelled wrong.) and I danced to Mi Nina Bonita with my dad. It's a timeless song.

My family is from Ecuador and FH's from El Salvador.
We booked with Elegancia.
Jose the owner is so nice and professional.
He totally listens to what you want and is not pushy at all. We were going to see a few others but fell very comfortable with him so we booked them the next day.

Due to budget issues we really cant get a band so we are getting 2 timbaleros to give the music a live feel.( you can get 1 or 2)

you should really check them out.

FH is half puerto-rican and half-italian... I'm Filipino so we're trying to incorporate all cultures.

we are also having a roast pig. watermill is giving it to us for free! yey!!!

god parents are called padrinos

we're doing that whole italian 'good luck' dance.

during the ceremony, we are doing veil, candle and cords. it is a tradition in the philippines and each has a symbolic meaning.

I wish I could respond to everyone. You all have such GREAT ideas!!! I love it!

I spoke to Paul (Paulo) from Bravura last night and told him about the spanish guitar trio from Elegancia. He said that Bravura has the ability to subcontract from other DJs. I was SO happy to hear that!!!!! We shall see! :)
