does anyone know my rights in obtaining back my 'non-refundable deposit'. Booked the catering hall 1/4/03, and want to cancel. Wedding is not until 9/5/04. They should be able to rebook.

You signed a contract regarding the non-refundable deposit, didn't you? Chances are, you are SOL as far as the initial deposit. If you've put anything else down after the initial deposit, you'll likely get that back, but I wouldn't expect to see your NRD again.

ETA: Have you called them and asked them how serious they are about their policy? You may get lucky just by asking.
