Calling ALL newlyweds

Have any of you changed your name on your birth certificate? I have yet to change my name on my birth certificate, how do I go about doing this?

TIA

I haven't changed my name on anything yet.

But why would you change your name on your Birth Certificate? I wouldn't think you need or want to do that.

I never heard of it either. I didn't think you ever changed anything on your birth certificate.

Re: Calling ALL newlyweds

you can't change the name that's on a birth certificate.

In cases of adoption, the adoptive parents can have the child's name legally changed, but it remains as-is on the birth certificate

I haven't changed my name on anything officially....I'm bad I know. I go by my married name, but my ss card, etc is still in my married name

Re: Calling ALL newlyweds

You CAN change your name on your birth certificate, but you don't have to (and people generally don't) when they get married. Changing with SS and DMV is enough.

ETS: When my mom got remarried, she changed mine and my sister's names on our BC. My 'step'father did not adopt us, but we changed our names. They cross out your original last name and write in the new one. There is a process that you have to go through with writing letters to appropriate people, etc.
