Re: Calling all TEACHERS!!

I went to hofstra for undergrad and stony brook for my grad. I think both are good but stony brook is less money by far than hofstra for the same degree. My vote is for Stony brook.

Mansfield University
CW Post

Stony Brook for my masters.

I hated Post so no way was I giving them another dime of my money for my masters

Re: Calling all TEACHERS!!

I went to Hofstra for both undergrad and grad... They have a great education program...

Personally I would think twice about going into teaching! It's REALLY hard to get into, unless you're looking for secondary ed... I would love to get out of it but don't know what else I could really do!!

Good luck!

I went to hofstra undergrad but for speech path. and highly recommend hofstra for any degree.

I went to dowling for my masters in education and would not ever recommend it.

kelly...what years did you you attend undergrad there?

Re: Calling all TEACHERS!!

i went to hofstra for grad school for secondary ed.
i liked it because the professors there have a lot of connections there, which makes it easier to find a job once you get your degree

Re: Calling all TEACHERS!!

hofstar for undergrad and queens for grad- less $$ both were good. I really liked hofstra but it was too $$ for grad and I had to pay out of my pocket.. I went with the less $$ school.

Re: Calling all TEACHERS!!

I got my masters at Dowling. It was pricey, but overall, I feel I got a good education there. I have to second the opinion of 'go into secondary, not elementary.' It's a tough, sad market out there unless you have crazy connections.

Sasha-

I was at hofstra from 1993-1996. When were you there? Did you have Dr. White for anatomy? I lived on campus, did you?

My friend Marsha went to hofstra for both under and grad for speech path- the same years I was there.

Re: Calling all TEACHERS!!

I have an accounting degree and an MBA and decided to make a massive career change and go into teaching. I am half-way through my Master's at Dowling - it is pricey, but I have made a lot of good connections that I am hoping will translate into a job!!

What area of education do you want to go into?? There is no demand for elementary ed, but secondary ed in math, science and foreign languages are desparate for people!

Good Luck!!

Re: Calling all TEACHERS!!

Thank you so much for everyone's help...I HAD wanted to go into elementary (my mom is still doing that after 34 years...but in Seattle) and I guess maybe the need for that isn't out here... Not interested in teaching math or science. I would love to teach art..but I have a feeling that would be the first program to get cut in a school district.
So is it a fair judgment to say that CW Post, Hofstra and Dowling are the ones to go to if I decide to go through with this and teach art?
TIA

Re: Calling all TEACHERS!!

Went to Binghamton University for undergraduate- but they don't have an undergraduate education program there.

Getting my masters in Early childhood education at CUNY-Hunter- it's a very good program and $$ excellent.
