calling all teachers ... i made a mistake ... *with update!

okkk soo i teach italian and to teach the kids new vocab words i use pictures on powerpoint. ok so the vocab word was lucky ... i found a picture on google and put it into my slideshow. Because it was on my little laptop and i didnt inlarge it, i didnt notice it was a dirty cartoon picture. sooo today when im teaching them the new word, there is, right there on the big screen for all to see. my 9th grade class wouldnt not stop laughing. As soon as i noticed what they were laughing at, i took it off the screen and told them i was truly sorry. i told them how i made a really big mistake. im just worried because its my first year teaching and i dont want to get introuble. i spoke to my mentor after and she was like the kids will get over it ... just let it blow over. and don't worry it happens to everyone. but does it really? i just feel like i screwed up big time ... i just hope one of the kids doesnt tell one of their parents and doesnt get me in big trouble! am i going to get fired?

awww u wont get in trouble. at that age they prob dont tell their parents anything anyway! im sure if ur mentor thought there was an issue, then she would have been honest with u.

No, you're not going to get fired. Don't worry, the only thing that will probably happen is that your popularity will skyrocket!

I say don't mention anything about it to them again and they'll forget about it,
Dont let it get to you. Even if someone does say something, its an honest mistake and it happens.

oh please, you will not get in trouble for this. you noticed it right away and you took it off the screen.

im also a first year teacher, and ive found that there will ALWAYS be a parent that will grind your gears, but truth be told, the administration is 99% of the time on your side.

i really dont think you have anything to worry about, especially if you told your mentor right away.

Dont worry about it..i showed my kids part of peter pan one year (the live people version..) Peter says 'you silly ***!' I almost died!!

Also, I read them a book 'Carnival of the Animals' by John Lithgow and the word Jackasses is in it. I didnt realize until it had come out of my mouth! Nothing happend, i got tenure! Dont stress lol

My first year teaching I read my kindergarten students a book that had a little boy peeing in a bush I told the class you cant see but hes holding a water bottle

You will be fine! Students forget what you taught them the day prior! So they will have something new to laugh about tomorrow.
Also, by making a simple mistake, it shows you are human and students tend to appreciate that and it can help build your relationship with them.
My first year teaching I wore a long white skirt one day. In the middle of class one girl goes, 'Miss, you are wearing a pink thong aren't ya?' That was embarassing! waking up at 5 am to get ready i wasn't thinking! The next day...it was like it never happened.

So tomorrow is a new day! You will be ok!

I wouldn't worry- they're all going to forget about it by tomorrow, if not by monday. Besides, I really dont think any of them would mention it to anyone. How many kids do you know would bring up a dirty picture at the dinner table with mom and dad anyway?

those stories are the things you will laugh about in 3 years. just relax. most kids--high school in particular--know better than to run home and tell their parents something like that, especially if they like you.

if you had any idea how many inappropriate things i've said and obsessed over later, this would be you ---->

Ok ladies ... the day was fine and no one said anything to me in class about it ... during hall duty one of my kids passed by to chat and made a comment about it ... i shot it down right away and moved on! soooooo i feel much better! thanks!!!

There is an 'oops' moment for the books that you will be telling your own kids one day! I am a teach too and have made SO many oops'!

Let it blow over. You now have the weekend to let the kids get over it and go in on Monday as if nothing ever happened.
