Calmer Update *Warning for Contact Lens Wearrs

So I'm sure many of you have heard about the contact lens recall issued May 25 for Amo Contact Lens solution. If you haven't, please read up on it as soon as possible. Well I had a rash of eye infections over the past five-six months and I've seen the dr. a few times over it.

Well I have been using the Amo Contact solution since January and now doing my research I find that I have all the systoms of Acanthamoeba Keratitis.

I'll have to go for a cornea scraping to diagnose it and I'm terrified. Treatment options are not very hopeful and the disease can eventfully lead to total vision loss or the removal of the eye.

I'm trying not to panick but I'm terrified. All I can think about is not being able to see. I don't even want to close my eyes to go to sleep. I may never see FH grow old with me.

Please pray that I'm reading into this too much and the results will be negative.

Update: So now that I slept on it, I'm substantially calmer. I still have to go for the cornea scraping but I'm sure that it will be something that can be handled by the the opthamologist. Reading up on all the symptoms and treatments was probably not a good idea as stressed as I was at 10 pm last night. Thanks for all your thoughts, I'll keep you updated. It will take about ten days for the results to come in.

i am sure you will be fine! we are our own worst enemy sometimes when it comes to things like this and our immediate reaction is to think the worst. just try and relax, and take it all 1 step at a time.

Think Positive.... Maybe will some medicated Drops the Rash will go away.. I will keep you in my prayers

It's not an acutal rash. I meant that I've had many many infections my dr. was confused about. I've tried so many different drops and the infection just keeps coming back.

I'm thinking positive but I should probably stop reading about it online. It's terrifying the stuff they post.

well at least you figured out what was potentially causing the problem, so now you can stop using it.....I had lasik a few years ago, but god I hated putting contacts in!! I can only imagine the anxiety you are going through! Just take it easy until they do their tests, try not to panic until you hear what your doctors have to say! here's some prayers.....

Thank you for your prayers. I'm going to the dr. tomorrow morning. I had to get a referral to the ophthalmologist who will be doing the actual scrapping so I have to meet with him.

Stupid contacts. I've been thinking about Lasik for awhile. Once this is over with I'm going for a consultation.

Arg. When it rains it pours sometimes.

A few years ago, I would get an eye infection every other week, after many doctor visits, changing doctors, and prescriptions (I was even prescribed a gel for my eyes that casued them to swell shut.) the 3rd doctor recommended using a daily cleanser (2-3 times/week only), in addition to the daily use of saline solution and to wear disposable lenses for no more than 2 weeks, tops.

I haven't had an eye infection since...you'll be fine.

I agree completely...sometimes when we read up on all the bad things that can happen from using a product all of a sudden we diagnose ourselves.... I did read up on this and threw away my solution and brought a new brand. I do hope that everything comes out alright...
