Camping Recipes?

Camping Recipes?

I know this is a long shot since there don't seem to be a lot of women on this site who camp.... but I'll still ask:

Does anyone have any easy camping recipes? I'm taking a 3 week camping trip to Nova Scotia and I want to make more than hotdogs/hamburgers/steak.

Thanks!

I think this will depend on what type of cooking gear that you have... we always cook over the fire but also bring one of those Coleman propane range-top things, which is pretty much just like cooking on your stove at home. It's hard to get real creative because you're living out of a cooler, so I unfortunately don't have any recipe ideas for you! We usually survive on mac & cheese and rice-a-roni! I would love to go on a camping trip right now, it's been too long....

I like making Chicken Quesadilla; very easy. Grill up some chicken on the fire, then take a tortilla, cover with cheese, chicken and salsa, put another quesadilla on top (so it is like a sandwich). wrap it in tin foil and cook on the grill for about 15 minutes. Yummy!!!

Also, if you go to Coleman.com, they have some recipes on that site (or at least they used to!!)

Have fun, I love camping!!!!!

3 weeks!!! What an awesome trip!!

We're not that crative when it comes to food when we camp. The only other meat we bring is chicken. I usually marinate some chicken a couple different ways, and have them as sandwiches or just by themselves.

That chicken quesadilla recipe sounds yummy! I'll go to the coleman site - good idea!

Re: Camping Recipes?

Look for local treats - fresh corn on the cob from corn stands and stuff like that.

For breakfasts, my Mom used to do a fun biscuit.

Find a stick (about 1/4' diameter) and scrape the bark off with a pen knife (like you would do for a marshmallow toasting stick)

Take a refrigerated Pillsbury biscuit and stretch it into a long narrow dough piece and wrap it on a stick - sort of like a spring, coiled down the stick, but leaving a bit of space between the coils. Toast over an open fire like you would toast a marshmallow - spread with butter and jam - yummy!
