Can a bridal shower be too soon?

Can a bridal shower be too soon?

My sister is getting married in May 2001. We're trying to set a date and are having a bit of difficulty. Nervous about Jan-Feb b/c of winter weather, Mar & April she'll be expecting it....is November 2000 too soon?

Not sure what's appropriate. How early was your shower? Any advice?

Our reception site recommended Body Rock and Ultimate Starlite. Haven't spoken with them yet but would welcome comments if anyone knows them.

I think as long as she has completed her registry you could do it whenever...you certainly will ensure a surprise

I read that rule of thumb re: wed invites & time frame - but I also know from showers I've been invited to that its not a hard and fast rule. The guest list will be based upon the wedding list and will be reviewed by the groom, his mom and my dad before mailing.

Mine was 9 weeks before my wedding...and although my family did try to surprise me, it was really easy to figure out b/c of the timing. I was thinking about getting her to help me throw a surprise party for our father...having her write out invites (that I'll never mail), review menus, etc...basically get her to help plan the party but it will be for her! My dad turned 65 last year and b/c of my wedding, we didn't throw him a bash. She wouldn't suspect at thing!

So I know I'll surprise her - just don't want to look weird (you know, how we do everything for 'them').

Re: excitements....I never realized how much work the shower would be for me! I spent days sorting through gifts that didn't fit in my apartment, throwing away boxes and wrappings, writing thank yous, returning duplicates or unneeded gifts....all during the time when my to do's were kicking in high gear. Looking back, it would have been nice to have had it in that lull btwn the reserving the reception hall + major vendors and when all the other stuff has to get done. :)

Thanks for the feedback ladies! :) Much appreciated!!!!!

I'm happy to help. I check in to the board b/c my sister is now planning her wedding. Our mom died when we were little and as the big sister, I'm holding her hand throughout the process. This is the easiest way I have to keep on top of current news ('cause I never want to see another bridal mag again! LOL!)

Even in Feb, I'm sure you'll be OK. I know it feels like so many things are happening at once and can be overwhelming - but its a fun ride and you only do it once (or at the very least, once fo r the first time) and you should enjoy it. I was overwhelmed at my shower by all the love and generosity of my friends and family.....just remember to stop and smell the roses. :o)
