Can a cat's 'voice' change?

My cat Lincoln is meowing SO different. Is it possible for their voice to completely change as they get older? He is 4 yrs old.

How different? And is this sudden? I know that when my cat is about to throw up he meows differently. So maybe you should make sure he is feeling okay. My cat makes chirping sounds usually instead of meowing, but that has been his whole life. So if this is the past couple of days/weeks maybe its indicative of his health. Have you heard this meow before? Sorry, don't mean to scare you...I'm just very pro-vet if my cat is acting even slightly differently. Better to be safe than sorry.

no, it's something completely different...if it continues I am taking him to the vet. It worries me! It started suddenly on Sunday.

One of my cat's is 6 and she has had a plethora of various sounds coming out of her mouth. I think like babies have different cries they have different mews. There's the 'I'm hungry' meow, the 'I'm excited about the wet food your opening up' meow, the 'pay attention to me meow', the 'your still not paying attention to me so I'm doing something you don't like look at me now' meow, etc....

If it's a cry and it's ever done in or near the litter box - get to a Vet right away!
