The reason I am asking is that I have left a deposit on my dress which is a sample. It is already a little bit big on me; mostly in the chest area. I plan on going down at least two sizes by my wedding. A friend of mine told me that I should be careful, that after awhile nothing can be done! Now I'm worried!!

I was told no more than 2 inches. However, I think that a really good seamstress technically could MAKE a dress if they wanted to. So, why shouldn't they be able to make yours smaller? Keep looking until you find a seamstress that is 100% confident in their abilites. I think you'll be fine.

i had a bridesmaid dress that was ordered in a size 24. when the dress came in, i lost weight and had to have the dress taken in to be a size 16. i wouldn't worry.
