Can any St. Kilian's brides help?

Hi~

I was just wondering if any of you could let me know exactly how accommodating the music director is with letting you choose your music?

The one thing that I REALLY want is the Our Father sung. Fr. Gus told me I'd have to ask Paul three months before the wedding. I got the feeling that the answer was going to be no.

Also, do you get to choose which singer you get at your wedding? I don't want to insult anybody, but there's one that I really like and I wasn't sure if there was only one singer who did weddings.

TIA!

Paul is the music director at St kilian's and is great. I would contact him now and ask if it is possible to have the Our Father sung. Who is doing your wedding...Father Gus?
As far as vocalist I know that Kathleen does a lot of the weddings...not sure if she does them all. But she sings beautifully. Definitely ask for her. She usually sings at all of the Sunday 11am masses.

Hope this helps.

ITA - Paul is a really nice guy, I can't see him saying no.

Thanks so much for your replies!

I'm good friends with Fr. Gus, so it'll be really special for us to have him celebrate the Mass. He said he really didn't think it was going to be a problem, but that in the end Paul makes the final decisions.

As for the singers, I heard that Kathleen usually does the weddings and I do think she has a really nice voice, but I really like Margaret (who I think does the funerals) better.

Thanks for letting me know that Paul is good to work with. I only see him sitting behind the organ during Mass -- I've never had any personal interaction with him.

i don't know anything about St. Killian's, but I am a cantor, i don't see why there would be any problem with having the Our Father sung. It should be the plain chant version that would be led by the cantor and the entire congregation can sing along. If it is an arrangement of the 'Our Father' that is sung only by a soloist, it may be a no go. the 'Our Father' is said right before the community receives the Eucharist and the intent of the prayer at that point in the Mass is that it should be said and sung by ALL.
