Can anyone help me on Nesconset Updated...Looked at apt. last night(last reply)

Hi Im going to look at an apt. in Nesconset tonight(hopefully it's my way out of the madness I like to call my FILs' ). The landlord was very nice on the phone and she has to be the first person not to flip over the kids and even to suggest that 2 in each room should be fine. Can anyone tell me anything good or bad? Schools? It says SD#1 but when I looked it up there is no High School in Nesconset. Does anyone know where my daughter would go(Smithtown)??

Hi! I grew up in Nesconset and now teach there. It really depends what part of Nesconset you are looking at as to which school district your kids will go to. You mentioned SD#1- which is smithtown. THat is the district I went to and teach in now.

Smithtown is a GREAT school district. There is no HS in Nesconset. Nesconset is part of smithtown, so your kids would go to Smithtown HS, which is currently in Smithtown. They are reopeining another HS in St. James next year. That's the HS I went to (Smithtown East).

Went to look at apartment last night and I was so excited will talking to the landlords. Apartment was perfect for us. Plus there was a big backyard for the kids, the garage, a parking spot on the property. Everything was right at the corner...bank, deli, cvs, etc. The school bus picks up right in front of the house. It was just perfect. We only have a teeny tiny bathroom now with a shower stall the apartment has a huge bathroom with a tub, the kitchen was three times the size of the one we have here and I love to cook. The bedrooms were a decent size. Best of all the landlords were really nice. I could go on all day it was just what we need, however, there was an application to fill out and a credit check and I dont know how many of you have perfect credit but we dont from when we were teenagers and we are actually in the process of repairing it. FH's is almost cleared up but I dont think it's enought to get us the apartment. I am soooooooo disappointed.

I think I live right near there--the CVS with the Ace hardware in the strip? With the deli and Chinese food, across from the bank? It's a nice area--we are less than 1/2 miles from that shopping center and our SD is Connetquot. Who is your daughter living with to go to school in FL? Was she upset about leaving?

My daughter is staying with my mom and yeah she's real upset about having to leave and it took me a long time to realize that it's just the best thing for her right now. She has dreams of becoming a Marine Biologist and that is just not gonna happen at this school with all the distractions. Plus I dont have to worry about her safety will she's in Fla. Im not sure about the strip though. There was a North Fork bank on one corner and a Ace Hardware on the other. They are in the Smithtown school district.

Definitely same place! We are about 1/2 mile down Old Nicolls. I like the area. Maybe that 4 corners is the divider for the SD.

Thanks Ladies for the support. I did explain the credit thing to the landlord and she seemed understanding. She said she is looking for recent credit issues. I told her that it will show I just paid my car loan off and that I pay my cell on time but those are really the only bills I have since we live with my inlaws. I gave her the address to my landlord before we moved in with FH parents. There is one thing on there though that has me worried and it is from a lease I broke in Fla. that is being disputed. See last year we finally had enough with the inlaws and moved down to florida. We moved into a brand new complex(first ones to live in the apartment). The model they showed me was not the apt. they gave me. The day I got the keys I went to the office and asked to have another unit because it was right ontop of a drainage ditch that was filled with stagnant water and the apartment had roaches in it. I explained to the manager(who I never met before that day)that I had a year old son and god forbid he ever got out the door(things happen)I was afraid of the drainage ditch in front of the apartment(right outside my door literally). So she told me that maybe I need to keep a better eye on the baby then. I told her that I refused to live in an apartment with bugs and she told me that as long as she calls an exterminator it's not an issue. When I explained that I was pregnant and did not want an exteriminator there all the time she told me I would have to get used to the bugs then til I gave birth. Then she told me that it must be a New York thing because no one else has complained about it. When I signed the lease there was supposed to be free daycare on site until 2pm and then HW help after. Well after moving in I find out there is no such thing so I wasnt able to go to school or work as planned because I had no were to leave the kids. The complex was supposed to have safety gates that you needed a pin # to get through well they never worked and someone broke into my car and stole my CD player. There was supposed to be no college kids allowed to live there(we were right down the road from a major university)well there were and they used to stand on their roof pissing into the parking lot and then my son comes home and tells me that there is a naked girl walking around the complex. When I complained about this I get a letter on my door saying my kids are no longer allowed in the computer room at the clubhouse because their names were mentioned in a letter found in the garbage saying they along with other kids in the complex were going to destroy the managers car. She photo copied this letter and sent it to every apt. in the complex. Needless to say she admitted my kids weren't even in the clubhouse and that another kid admitted writing it. So I told her after 3 months I've had enough with the lies and the harassment and that we were moving out. I will surrender my security deposit and even pay an extra months rent but that's it. Well I move out and get a bill for $4000 a month later and when I call I get told that she wont speak to me and this is what happens when someone skips out on their lease. I have it all in writing though that I not only gave them notice I was leaving but I complained to the head office and I even had the manager come to my apartment when I was loading the truck so no one skipped out. Well this long story is on my credit report as being disputed because I wrote their head office again sent them pictures of everything and the copy of the letter and they just keep sending me bills. I have to find a lawyer in Florida to fight this and so far I havent found one. Besides this mess I dont really think the credit check would be a problem. Sorry it's soooo long.

I really would not get in to any of the details of the FL apartment. The new landlords do not need to know any of those details. If it becomes an issue, or if you want to head it off before it does....I would just tell them that you are in the middle of a legal dispute with a company (dont even say apartment complex because that may turn her off) because they are in breach of contract. If she asks for more details, just explain that you really cant talk about it (under the advice of your attorney) because it has not been settled yet. That's all.

If you start telling her details she may think you and your kids are the problem...and you dont need that.

But really, I wouldnt say anything about it at all. When a realtor or landlord runs a credit check on you, they really just want to see your overall score. You're not trying to get a mortgage or anything so you dont need perfect credit.

Sounds good. I wasnt plannning on giving the complex info. to them though. Just explaining it here, between friends. It will only show up as a Management Company. It's the amount that has me worried. She wanted to see specifics such as the fact I paid the car loan off. Its such a shame because we are nice people and we do have good kids, we just both went through a rough time earlier in life and like most people have learned from it and are fixing it. We do pay our bills on time and except for these things when we were much younger dont owe anyone. FH works very hard at his job and nursing school and 4 kids is also a full time job. It's just embarassing that we do have this as a situation that can hold us back. Well I do appreciate all your thoughts and all of you who had your fingers crossed. I gotta just look at it as if it doesnt come through there's just something bigger and better out there for us.
