Can anyone recomend...

a good obediance school? I have a 10 month old Rotty and shes out of control! I cant take my eyes off of her for even 2 minutes. She is always eating something. She lets herself in and out of the house, eats everything in sight including my cat Monkey! I got her spayed on Friday and she ate throught the plastic thing they stick around their necks ( i call it a lamp shade) Who does that?! I tried Petco and that was a total waste of time and money. I need to gain some control on her because I do live on a very busy road and it is hard to train the people in my house to always keep the front door shut and locked.

where did you get her? I have a 2 1/2 year old rotti and trained her ourselves and she's an angel or a devil when she wants to be

I got her from yuppy puppy, I know I know, never should have walked through the doors at that place but I saw her in the window and had to have her. She is extremely smart and she learns everything from our German Shepard. One big difference is the GS listens extremely well. She can definilty be an angel at times but most of the time like last night she went into hyper mode and I couldnt calm her down for like 20 minutes. The vet told me that when we first got her she tested my 'dominance' and I failed and that is why she is the way she is.

Re: Can anyone recomend...

first and foremost, you must get the dominance thing down...you need to show her you are the boss. They are a VERY stubborn and smart breed. The next time you catch her doing something bad, get her on her back, all four legs up and LAY on top of her, with your weight, literally LAY on top of her and hold her in this submissive position for a few minutes, looking into her eyes. She'll see that you are the 'alpha' in the pack and learn to listen to you. we still do it with ours at 2 1/2 years old. Do it often and consistently.

Is she crated? It's a little late, but definitely recommended! She was crated at night to sleep from 6 weeks till just a month ago. She'll sleep in there now with the door open! It's her home, safe spot.

as far as obedience, you might want to contact a breeder for a good private one.

Also, is she getting enough excercise? They need to run. They also love to please their masters, so give lots of praise when she is fetching the ball, or being good. They love it.

It's not too late to establish dominance with her....just do it often and consistently. She needs to know what is bad behavior and good behavior

Well....she is crated but I let her sleep on my bed sometimes, which I know I am not supposed to do. Ive been getting better at puttin her in her cage at ngiht but I feel bad becasue I work all day so she has to be in her cage and then when I go to bed I have to put her back in. FMIL has been letting her stayout during the day upstairs but who lknows how long that will last. I will try what you said about laying on her to show her whos boss. Thanks for the advise!! I have a huge backyard so she gets a lot of exercise with the other dog. My shepard is good to because when Tonka (rotty) starts to do something bad Midnite(shepard) will 'yell'' bark at her and she stops. If only that worked for me lol.

Re: Can anyone recomend...

believe it or not...you sound just like me!! My in laws would care for my Bailey when DH and I were at work.

Now she sleeps in the bed sometimes with us (she takes the whole thing up!) but prefers her cage or the bathroom tile floor.

I found that she gets annoying when she needs to go potty or is hungry or out of water...she gets all up in our faces or woofs at us.

Does Tonka have toys to keep her busy?

and don't feel bad about crating her at night...it's a security thing after awhile. You'll notice if you yell at her, she'll run into her cage (because it's her safe spot).

Good Luck..keep my posted. I love my rotti and we plan on having more!

Re: Can anyone recomend...

Yes she has tons of toys, I have to replenish every so often because she destroys them or loses them outside. lol . She does the same thing when she wants something! So loud when you are trying to sleep! If I ignore her she pulls the blankets off of us and runs through the house like a lunitic. My BIL loves her, he gets such a kick out her. When she gets excited she hops and sticks her *** out in the air and wiggles. Its hysterical.

She is beautiful!!! I dont have a pic on this computer. I am at work unfortionalty but I do have one on my home computer. I have to be honest I have had German Sheps all my life and when we decided on getting another dog FH begged for a Rotty, I kept saying no no I dont want one I want another Shep but I am so glad he talked me it to it. She is the best dog I have ever owned. They are such characters!

We read the Rottweilers for Dummies book and it was very useful!

PLEASE post a pic of Tonka! I can't wait to see her!!!

It is an addiction with them, I want another one SO bad, but kind of want a baby a tad bit more, so we will wait on another pup.

Is yours German or American Rotty? Minei s half and half
