My cousin is a Marine stationed in CA, and a few months ago he got married. She's expecting their first child a week or two after our wedding. They are 19 and 20 years old. It is entirely possible that he'll be shipped out at some point between now and October.
I very much want to send them an invitation, but I don't want them to feel IN ANY WAY obligated to do anything that they can't do right now. I'm sending one to everyone else in my cousin's family - parents, sister, etc., and I just want J. to know that we're thinking about him and wish both of them the best. So, could I include a card in the invite that says the following:
'Dear __, We were so happy to hear about your wedding and the baby! We know that October isn't a great time for you guys to be travelling, but we wanted to let you know we'd be thinking about you on our wedding day and wish you both the best. We can't wait to see pictures of your new family!'
I dunno - it kinda feels like a premptive disinvitation in an invitation. Should I just not send the invitation? Or just send the invitation??

Send the invite, don't include the note, let the couple decide if they will attend yours.
Be nice and send them a wedding gift.

I would send the invite minus the note and let them decide if they want to go or not.
FH is a Marine and we invited a few other Marines from his unit and ones he's deployed with. We know for a fact that some of them are going away again at the end of the month, but we still sent out invitations. By adding the note, they might get offended....

Just send the invitation. If he sends you his regrets, I would call him and say basically what you wrote so he knows you understand and there are no hard feelings.

I woudl just send the invite. One of DH's family members is in Russia on official business and we sent one to know 99% sure he was not going to be able to make. People just appreciate the thought. If they cannot make it, they will still be happy you remembered them.

I'm going to disagree - I love your note and I think its incredibly graceful and thoughtful!! One minor suggestion though, it doesn't allow for the possibility that they are planning to come/considering it!!! :) Hence the preemptive feeling... What if instead of:
We know that October isn't a great time for you guys to be travelling
YOu start with: While we'd absolutely LOVE to see you in October, we know that October isn't a great time for you guys to be travelling...
Or anything that kind of says 'we'd love to see you '... No one in their right mind could be offended by such a lovely gesture!

Just send the invitation. The note makes it seem you have decided for them.
