Can I ask you wonderful Ladies a question?

Can I ask you wonderful Ladies a question?

I don't know if this has been asked before?

I am addicted to a Wedding Story, and then sometimes hang around for a Baby Story on TLC.

HOW REALISTIC IS THAT SHOW?????
I ask my mother and she always tells me how my father wasn't even allowed in the room when I was born so she's the wrong person to ask! lol

The fact that some of these ladies have their Mom dad MIL FIL dog neighbor coworker random passerby really freaks me out! Now I understand that to be on this show and show such an intimate time they must be much more 'open' with who watches this - but still!!!

What do your ladies think??

Good question! My honey asked me when we have kids..'We don't have to that crowd watching you, do we?' I mean there isn't any room for the poor doctor! I just want the 2 of us and if I am not doing to well, my Mom! That's it!

It is me and my hubby - there are some nether regions reserved for hubbies and doctors that parents and inlaws should just NOT SEE! My Opinion lol

I think it depends on the hospital. When I had my daughter, I couldn't imagine wanting a crowd of people with me. I'm not to sure if the hospitals in our area allow anyone other than the coach for the woman giving birth. I might be wrong, but from my family and friends, they were only allowed 1 person with them when delivering.

Not for nothing but I have a problem with just the dr and various other medical people being in the room with me, let alone a friggin crowd -- family or not!!!!! I told my family that they could pitch a tent in the waiting room for all I care, as long as nobody was in the room with me (except my DH of course, who will be passed out on the floor, but that's another story)!!!!!!

And there will be no videotaping or picture taking of anything below the waist!!! Joe can video the baby afterwards, but not while he/she's coming out of me!

Call me old fashioned, whatever, but homey don't play that!

I had the large delivery room at Southampton Hospital. FH was there from 3-6CM when I had them bring me my mom (FH was there too) From 6-9.5CM before I had to have a c/s where it was just FH and my docs.

I think the most important thing is to make sure you are comfortable with the arrangements. People who apply for baby store have strange camera people taping their labor and birth so they might not be considered the 'norm'. I, for one, will not have a family get-together in my room nor as anyone asked me to be in my room. I think they all know me better than that.
And this homey, don't play that game either.

Re: Can I ask you wonderful Ladies a question?

Ugh! That's the main reason I can't stand that show. I think the families all want 'air time'. I saw one where a woman had at least 10 people in there including her nephews who were about 6 and 8 years old. I have nephews that age and I don't think I need to share the experience with them. Another one, the woman was having a natural birth at a birthing center and she had her 3 year old daughter there. Did the 3 year old understand anything except that her mother was screaming and in obvious pain? The kid was crying hysterically. You hear them saying something about bringing her to bake cookies, and then she was gone. A wedding story is cute but no A Baby's Story, please!

But to each their own I guess.

edited to add: LOL BBQ

Also, I delivered at Winthrop, they only allowed one other person besides DH if you wanted them. And they couldnt come in and out, they had to either stay in or not come in at all.

I keep editing because I keep thinking of stuff: LOL!!! Let me tell you, and all the Moms can agree I'm sure, when I was at the pushing stage and a contraction came, you throw your legs back and your naked butt is all up in the air and....well, you get the idea....who wants an audience for that? Even though in the moment, you probably wouldnt care if they brought an army in, still, who would plan for it to be a spectator sport? LOL

If it were up to me... it would be me, DH, my OB and a nurse. Period!!! Who the he11 needs to hear from MORE than 1 person... 'push, Kathi...harder...I see the head...just a little bit more...c'mon!!!!!'. Not.

Although, my mom did tell me that once I'm pushing I won't care if the door is wide open and the janitor's mopping the floor.

it's totally legit - my BM was just taped for a Baby Story, and the hospital asked her who she wanted in there.... a BS had/has nothing to do with it!

My Dr. said that it's the hospitals decision as to how many people you can have in the room with you. I may have my sister and my DH because I'm afraid he might faint and I know she won't

Re: Can I ask you wonderful Ladies a question?

I am hoping to have my DH, my mother, and possibly my father. Some people choose to have 1 person, or their entire family. I refuse to pass judgement on them for making that decision. A birth is a miraculous thing, and every woman has a right to choose how she want to bring her child into the world.

I had DH, midwife and my MIL. ( my mom is deceased and I am very close to my MIL) .
A doula came in about 2 hours after I was in the delivery room...which at Mamonidias Hospital there is no charge for the doula.

MIL stayed on one side of the room until I asked her to come over and help me pin up my hair (!) I couldnt stand hair in my face while I was going thru painful contractions. I did most of my labor standing up and I needed to hold onto/pound my fist into the bed.

I cant imagine having little kids there. Too traumatic. IMO

'MOM' later gave me the biggest kiss and hug (OUCH!) and thanked me for allowing her to witness ' a little miracle'

aww!!! I miss my girlie- shes home today w. the nanny
