Can I Elope NOW???????????

So, with 200 days to go, my mother decided to start a family feud. I have spent almost the entire day crying over an email I received from my aunt telling me she is not coming to the wedding. The reason?? A nasty email my mother (her sister) sent her yesterday. My aunt included the email for me to read.

I cannot believe my mother would send her sister an email telling her she is argumentative, mean spirited, and something else equally obnoxious that I can't remember at the moment.

I called my mother who sees absolutely nothing wrong with what she wrote!

Why is it that weddings bring out the absolute worst in people?????????????????????????????????

And why am I now caught in the middle????????????

Maybe it will all blow over. Your aunt is just mad at what your mom did(which I don't blame her), maybe she will still come to the wedding.

Oh sweetie, I am so sorry this is happening. Maybe you should explain to your mother that you wanted your aunt around at the wedding and if she has anything nasty to say to her to save it for after October!!!

Awww Darlene!!!! I'm so sorry!!! It does seem that what is supposed to be a happy time brings out the worst in people, especially those closest to us. Is it even worth trying to talk to your Mom to find out what went through her head? I don't agree with your Aunt not coming to the wedding just because she can't get along with your Mom right now. They should be remembering that this is your WEDDING, not some dramatic reality show about some strangers wedding.

OMG, that's horrible! Did your aunt DO something that prompted that from yur Mom?? I'm sorry you're stuck in the middle!

You know - when I was at 200+ days, there were so many things going on that i thought I would lose my mind, thought would ruin the wedding - now, with 87 days left - I can't even remember what they are!

Maybe this will blow over...

I did talk to her - and my aunt!! Mom said that since she heard my aunt is having a hard time she wanted to send her an email, but thought she should explain why there has been zero communication for 15 months. Assuming this to be true (which I don't believe for a second), why on earth couldn't she just say she was upset over whatever perceived slight happened in January '05?? Did she have to call her belligerent, argumentative and mean spirited??

And the reason my aunt is 'taking this out on me' is because included in my mother's email was the statement that my mother is uncomfortable being around her! Therefore, since it is my wedding she doesn't want to make my mother uncomfortable by her mere presence, and ruin my mother's enjoyment of my wedding.

I know how you feel though. I ask FH almost on a daily basis if we can just elope and get it over with already. Its causing so much stress and drama. And I realized that you definitely know who your real friends are when you are planning a wedding!

Weddings are stressful for everyone I think, especially family all around us. I think your aunt will come to the wedding, she is just angry right now.

I wish this was true. Unfortunately, my aunt is as stubborn as a mule. She and my grandmother haven't talked in 27 years. Which by the way was the reason my grandmother isn't coming. I wish I could say that now that my aunt has dug in her heels my grandmother would come, but my mother told her months ago to just stay home.

Why do people do this to us brides??

Lots of hugs and prayers are being sent your way, Darlene!!! Could you ask your aunt to disregard the e-mail and attend the wedding as your guest and for you b/c this is your day and no one else's? We're here for you for whatever you need!!!!
