can i invite some kids but not others?

I have a dilemna. I'm inviting my dad's cousins to the wedding. (2 couples) Each couple has kids who are about my age (~30). I'm close to some of the kids but not to others. I know it's sort of breaking the rules, but can I invite the children of one couple but not the children of the other couple?

I can't have everyone and it would be nice to have the relatives I'm close to...what do you guys think?

I think if I were the people who had the kids you didnt invite and I saw other kids about the same age there I WOULD ME MAD and/or UPSET that they werent invited no matter the fact you arent close to them. i think that would hurt peoples feelings

this is a sticky situation. once you go down the road of cousins, it's an all or nothing type of thing. can you separate them by age? for example, FI is close to his 2 30-something cousins, but not to the younger ones. when the invite went out and his aunt called, she inquired why the other two were not invited. i simply explained that this was an adults-only function and the younger ones were not invited. if the cousins are all the same age, i think you need to invite them all. hopefully if you are not close to some of them, they will decline.

good luck!!!

ETA - just read your post more thoroughly. if everyone is the same age, then i think it's an all or nothing deal.

We originally were not inviting any kids however my FH has only 2 cousins on his father's side of the family so we decided that they should be there. I am not inviting any kids on my end because there is just too many and all of my siblings understand the dilemma and are ok with that.

We know that there's a really good chance we're going to get in trouble for this, but we are just inviting out of town kids. Our reasoning is that most of our friends are out of town and many of them have small children. If their kids are not invited, they won't be able to attend, so...

Thanks for the responses. I think I will have to draw the line at second cousins. I will invite cousins but not second cousines. Does that make sense?
I'm so etiquettically challenged..

Well, do you mean not inviting kids of other family, or kids of other friends? Friends can't get mad at you b/c your family kids are invited b/c family is different. My nieces and nephews are invited to the wedding, but that is all for the kids.

I had to draw the same line, and I'm MISERABLE about it! I would love to have all my second cousins, but I just can't.
The worst part is that my first cousins are 2, 7, and 10 years old, and my second cousins range in age from 2 to 23! The First cousins are in the party, so they're invited, but I can't invite the others!
