I think that is fine, you are being extremely mature in your speech, if she gets mad about it, then you know you have done all you can. GOOD LUCK!!

Re: Can I really write this?
I think its great. If I was writing it, I wouldn't ask her again in the beginning if she's still buything that gown. Thats just my opinion. Good luck!

Re: Can I really write this?
I think you're right. I'm going to cut the line about the gown. I don't want it to seem like I am asking for money, b/c really I'm not. But it may come across that way...

Re: Can I really write this?
I basically told my MIL that my mom was paying for her friends that she wanted invited so my MIL said thats fair I will do that too. Can you tell your mom your MIL is paying for her friends b/c you cant afford it?
I agree though I didnt like the fact that I met people at my wedding for the first time.

My future in laws aren't inviting ANY friends. They have been so wonderful about the guest list. I feel badly b/c my mother doesn't really have any family coming. But I am reading Emily Post's Wedding Etiquette book right now and it says this:
'This is not the time for parents to insist on reciprocity for all the gifts they've given and weddings they've attended in the past, nor does your wedding need to be the occasion for them to fulfill their own social obligations.'
Do I just photocopy that & mail it to her?

Re: Can I really write this?
I think you worded it perfectly...and it doesn't seem as though you are writing just for this...but just to update on the wedding in general
I also think you handled it in a way that should make her feel like you tried everything and aren't just doing this because dad is paying and she is not!!!!
Good luck keep us posted!!!

Re: Can I really write this?
that is a great letter!! by not being too blunt and getting straight into the real issue (talking about dresses, wedding planning etc.) your coming across as being really polite and it doesn't seem the least bit confrontational- perfectly stated!!!
Good luck!! Don't stress too much!! My sis got married when she was 5 mths pregnant, and I tried to do everything for her b/c I didn't want her stressing out.....your mom should really understand how important it is for you to relax right now. Hope it all works out for you!!
