can i still get married in a church???

Hi girls. Posting under a different name bc i dont want any of my lurkers aka family to read this!

but, me and fh have been talking about going to town hall and getting married....for insurance purposes. we dont live together yet, so we cant be considered a domestic partnership. If we did this, could we still have our ceremony in our church when our actual wedding date comes around???

we just dont know what to do. its going to be a year without insurance if we dont

absolutely. you can still have the ceremony. when you go to do the ceremony at church--you have to apply for another marriage license and you have to just check a box on it that says you are already married. for each ceremony you do---you have to do another marriage license.

i've known plenty of ppl who did this.

For most health (medical) insurance policies, getting married is a 'life change' and you can add your spouse whenever you get married...not just when the plan year ends.

We got married last October and I was able to add my husband to my insurance at work effective the date of our marriage.

are you Catholic? I can't speak for other denominations, but can frmo the Roman Catholic end of thigns.

If so, yes, you can still get married in the Church. At this point though, since you are already legally married, it is called a convalidation. you will need to speak to the priest and fill out the paperwork for this. You can still have your Catholic ceremony or a Catholic Mass, but it is called a convalidation because it is VALIDATING a wedding that occurred outside the Church so it is recognized by the Church.

I would talk to a priest about this though so you can ensure that the proper paperwork is done. I would NOT lie to the priest and say that you're not married ---this will result in big problems because the priest or deacon has to send the marriage license to the state after a church wedding and you will not be able to get a marriage license again once it it used at City Hall.

I would imagine you would still go through Pre-Cana, but don't quote me on that.
