can I take anything other than Tums for bad heartburn

I have been having the worst heartburn ever but i dont want to take too many tums becuase I have had a kidney stone in the past and I def dont want to go thru that again. Anything else I can take?

Oh I feel for you! I had the worst heartburn when I was pregnant. I had Mylanta in literally every room. I found that it helped much better than Tums. Also the rolaids soft chews. Towards the end it was so bad that I ended up getting a prescription from my OB.

yes too many I beleive can contribute to them esp if you are prone to them, I had one in the past and My dad gets them all the time. I have heard it is hereditary.

I was taking pepcid complete... That seemed to help. My dr. recommended it because tums just wasnt working. I would call your dr to see if you can take that.

A few weeks ago, I had some serious heartburn and I drank milk. I also found that drinking Sprite helps me even though they say you shouldn't drink carbonated drinks.

Definately talk to your dr. Mine was so bad the doctor actually gave me a prescription 1 week before the baby arrived.

They say that it means the baby will have hair Do you think that's true?

PS. I get BAD heartburn all the time...I try to avoid fried food and tomatoes...they seem to bring it on.

I had a kidney stone 2 months PP with Emma. I blame it on the TUms. I didnt eat ANY with Jeremy and just drank milk to make the heartburn go away. I also avoided the spicy, acidy foods to lessen the chance of getting HB.

For those girls who have had a kidney stone I would equate that to labor pains... BUT when I did have my stone I swore that the pain of the stone hurts 10000x worse than labor. So if you can handle the stone you will be a champ in the delivery room!

This is why Im not scared one bit of labor- the kidney stone was horrible but I survived!

I took Pepcid Complete (per my OB's OK) and it worked wonderfully. I could have eaten a whole container of Tums and not gotten the same results. I had bad heartburn with both pregnancies, I even got heartburn from drinking water
