Can it be done?

Original post by Heidys

Hello Ladies,

In a little over a week I have become hooked on this site. This is because of how helpful and creative you all are.

Up until this weekend FH and I were planning on a mid-March wedding. However, the possibility of having it this year has arisen and we are strongly considering going for it. We are looking at the end of Oct./ beginning of November (yes, in four months!). On one hand this is a really short time-frame, and I am going to be under a lot of stress. On the other hand, I think this is a great opportunity to maybe get a good deal on a RH. What do you all think.

I am looking at Fox Hollow (my favorite), Surf Club, Smithtown Landing, The River View, and maybe Marina del Rey.

Surf Club quoted me $100 which I thought was way too high considering I am looking at a Friday/Sunday night and this is in 4 months. I am really hoping to land somewhere between $65-75pp (inclusive). If not, I don't think I can afford to do it in 4months. Do you all think that it is possible to negotiate that at the places I mentioned?

Thanks so much!

We booked last month and our date is 10.28.11

You can get vendors for better prices by filling holes in their books- but
finding one's with holes can be challenging.
Luckily I already have my dress- and my bridesmaids already have theirs- so that was one majorly time consuming thing out of the way!
Also-

Think of this seriously-
Can you come up with 20 or 30 thousand dollars in 4 months?

That's the major question!

Good luck and congrats!

The point is not to spend that much. I am really hoping that I will save a good chunk by doing it this soon...Don't you think?

Doable for sure, but you will definitely have to make a lot of compromises! Not just on your vendors, but you may have to buy a sample gown to get the one you love, or pay extra to have it rushed (and to me, it's not a wedding without the dream dress!)

Just something to consider :) Let us know what you decide!

I don't know much about Sample gowns. what are the up/downsides of buying a sample gown?

Upside is they are drastically cheaper than ordering a brand new one. Downside, you have to be sample size and because they were a sample, they may not be in great shape, i.e. stained, missing beading, have pulls in the fabric. But then again, you can find some samples in good condition, it just depends how often it was used.

Although you do save money
figure the venue is going to be at LEAST 10k and that's VERY cheap and probably for a day wedding.

Figure each vendor at it's VERY least will be 1 thousand (although most of them are way more)

So you need-

Dress
Church or Ceremony venue
Photographer
DJ/ Band
Flowers
Tuxes
Rings
Limos
Bridal party gifts, parent gifts, day of tips,
Hotel
Honeymoon
Ceremony Music
Officiant or Fee for person who marries you.

(If all of those things were 1000 or slightly under that's 13k right there.)

Having had to post pone once already- I'm not trying to scare you- I'm just being literal in terms of money.
Weddings are VERY costly.

Waiting till March might help you save.

And March will also be as good with price as jumping in a hole for Fall since it's down time.

Look into everything and whatever you guys decide to do will be exactly what's right for you!

Good Luck!

It CAN be done though!!

Re: Can it be done?

And dresses normally take 6 months to come in- and then there are a couple of fittings before the wedding-
BUT

You can totally find a dress you love.
Try sample sales!

Get your booty out there and start dress shopping this weekend!

Okay, that's helpful thanks. I will crunch some numbers and see...

After the RH, Dress shopping is #1 priority.

Re: Can it be done?

try the Swan Club. They quoted me $60pp (not including tax and gratuity) in January 2010 for my November 2011 (Friday night) wedding

My cousin got married there in 2001 in 6 weeks (shotgun wedding) and they got an AMAZING deal (though it was 10 years ago and i dont know what the actual numbers were, I know they felt like 'Bandits')

I'm actually going to play around with the above a bit:

1) Depending upon the number of guests, you may spend under 10k for the venue. If I have my room at full capacity, my RH will still cost me less than 10 k

2) Tuxes won't cost anywhere near 1k. You're only paying for FH's tux, so this will be in the $120-$200 range

3) If your ceremony is at the RH, there's no real need for limos, unless you just feel like you want them.

4) Hotel for the night of the wedding will not cost 1k unless you're staying in a suite in the city

5) Ceremony music will only be additional if you hire separate musicians (our ceremony music is included in our DJ package)

6) If you're only using 1 officiant, you can expect to pay in the $400-750 range.

D, the list was great and you covered a lot!!

Yes I know not all of those things were 1k- but I also left a few things out- hair and makeup etc... I think the vendors will cost in general - even with skimping another 10k unless you are lucky enough to have a concierge of family members who do make up, hair, flowers, take photos, etc.

It totally can be done- but a wedding is a ton of cashola!!!

Just wanted to make sure that was known because talking to the vendors has been blowing my mind- and most of the prices I've been quoted are 2 and 3 thousand PLUS!!! So 1k for a vendor would be a nice change of pace!!

lol~~
