Can Notary Publics Officiate Weddings???

So I just heard from a friend of mine that Notary Publics can marry people??? Does anyone know if this is true?

If so, if you know of someone who is a notary public from a different state...can they marry you???

My sister is a notary, so I just asked her and she said that she couldn't.

ahhh, ok....thanks. i dont know why this person thought that (i thought it was strange that i've never heard of that).
