Can some one help with Delta Skymiles?

Okay - let me first start off by admitting my lack of understanding - I have been accumulating skymiles on my card for the last four years but I have no idea how to now basically turn them into a ticket. I want to use the miles towards our honeymoon. FH has been earning Continental miles and I heard that Delta has a partnership with them.

Where do I begin and what do I do? I tried looking at Delta.com but I'm confused.

I have alot of Skymiles also with Delta. For our honeymoon we are going on a cruise that leaves out of San Juan. I called Delta to see how many skymiles I would need. They said for two round trip tickets I would need 60,000 miles. I have like 55,000 now. They said when you have the miles you can call delta and book the ticket through them and they will take care of it. You should just find out how many you need. Hope this helps.

Hi, I have used my miles for a trip for FH and on vacation. It's easy but start your contact with the airlines early.
First, don't limit yourself to just the miles earned on airfare. DId you or FH earn miles with other business partners of the airline. Typically, many hotels, car rentals participate. If so start planning to set up your miles early. As the airlines mileage awards dept may require you to send copies of hotel and rent a car to apply the credits.(for example the wyndham hotel gives you 500 miles to your airline for every stay)

Okay with that out of the way you should call Delta since you are a member of skymiles. Then if FH is a continental member he has to call continental and see if he too has enough miles for a ticket. It's usually 25K for domestic and 60K for certain international.
Then you need to call the airline that you will be traveling with to book your tickets at the same time. Remember, whether you use continental or delta they need to get the mileage info before they book. Also, if you are short a couple of thousand of miles you can somtimes buy miles for like $100 or so for 1500 miles if that will give you a free ticket (and for a $100 I am sure that is less than what you would pay for a full fare ticket.) But keep in mind only buy up when you end up paying less than if you bought the ticket without the miles. Good luck and sorry if I wrote more than you needed to know.
