LOL...this is going to be hard but I will try!!

you have to get double sided tape...the thick foam kind (its got green plaid on it!)

you make your design for the front...like what they have shown (punch letters out of cardstock) Turn piece over so the back side of punched paper is towards you. cut a piece of 'overhead' transparency a little smaller than your front piece. glue edges of transparency to edge of paper. then cut your double sided foam tape to fit each side so they are touching. DO NOT peel the wax paper off the other side of tape yet. fill 'box' with what ever beads or shells or punches that you are using in your shaker box. cut a piece of card stock the size to fit the whole box. peel off wax paper off of foam tape and press cardstock on to it!

Turn over and shake!!

The foam tape...its about 1/8 of an inch think and it makes the 2 pieces of cardstock stand out from each other....making a pocket!!

I hope that explains it!

that takes a lot of beads though...huh...but I may have to try one of these...

Ok i think I get it but a few questions-- when you cut the tranparency can't you just make it to fit the size of the cutout- not the entire size of the cardstock? That way using less beads? \

and then my next question-- I don't get where you fill it? do you make a pocket out of the transparency?

Sorry if these seem stupid? or better yet if I seem stupid

Laura...I'm going to try this...so I'll let you know how it goes...

the mounting tape creates the pocket for the beads...so I think you could cut the tape to go just around the hole...and then also put it around the outside

Oh I get it-- the problem was my mounting tape is in pre-cut squares!! so i wasn't even thinking about how you could use that to seal the whole thing
Let us know how it goes--

I have mounting tape it strips....but you could cut your squares ito strips to create the shaker hole...

I didn't try last night (had an interview today really early that I needed to get to sleep) but I will try today...and must get a disposable camera until I get my digital back from the shop....

I was looking at some of these at Joann's last night, and it looks like they used foamcore board as the 'spacer'.

If you're not familar with it, it's a styrofoam board with a paper covering on boths sides - 1/4' thick. You can get them at art supply stores in sheets approx. 24' x 36' or so.

You can cut it with an X-Acto knife, thought tight round shapes a a bit tricky. I've actually used a rough emery board to shape it some.

They cut the inner and outer shape out of foam core, applied the clear on one side, then the paper or fabric design elements, and just a solid piece on the back. This would give you more flexibility to do shapes other than a straight edge.

Here's a link to someone at Lifetime moments that made a shaker very similar to what you want to do that explained how she did it.

I would love to take pics...but my camera is being fixed...and it is in a store where the brush fires hit...so I don't know what to do...

Re: can someone explain how to make a shaker box?

The Sizzix is a die cut machine. You use it to cut out shapes & letters in various materials (paper, card stock, felt, fabric, etc.).

Your shaker came out great.

You could add sea shells, some natural looking fiber.
