What is the theory behind and anniversary dance? who does it? is it a parents thing? My parents were married May 10, the year they got married it happened to be Mother's day.. now I'm getting married May 8, and it will be mother's day.. would they get the dance?
I'm a bit confused..

Re: Can someone explain this to me...
you can dedicate a song to them!! thats so nice! I think it usually where the dj puts on a song and asks all the married couples to get up and dance... then he says the couple married less then 3 hours sit down, couples married less then a year, less then 5 years etc untill the longist married couple is left dancing. then you can give them your bok or a bottle of champaigne or something
eta - try to figure out who it will be ( i already know) if its not you parents I would use a different song and earlier or later in the evening request their song to be played and let them dance and then u and you and your hubby can join them

All the married couples go to the dance floor & the MC has them sit leave the dance floor based on when they were married 1 year, 5 years and so on. The couple who is married the longest can get the bo-k/garter.

I like the idea of giving them a spotlight song.. I have ask my parents what their song was for their first dance.. I think that would be cute.. YAY!
I never heard of this but I am so glad that I did! What a cute idea!

I'm defintely doing this in lieu of the bouquet/garter toss since we don't have that many singles. I'm 99% sure it will be my grandparents....54 years! God Bless them, we should all be so lucky!

Re: Can someone explain this to me...
the anniversary dance is to honor the couple married the longest at your wedding......it's a nice alternative to the garter toss/bouquet toss
but I think it would be nice to mention that your parents were married on Mother's Day -- number of years ago and that you are keeping with tradition....

I think that would be a wonderful thing to do. That's really neat that both you and your parents will/did get married on Mother's Day.

I know..and it was totally by chance..
Long story short, FH & I had ISSUES choosing a date, so one of my BM & best friend said why don't you just put em all in a hat, and pick one..that's what we did, actually Fri May 6 came out.. but when we figured out all the logistics (most of his family are OOT) we settled on Sunday May 8, mother's day..lol

I'm getting married THIS mothers day, and we'll probably present all the mothers with a rose. I know that has nothing to do with your parents anniversary, but its a nice thing to do to honor the mothers.

LOL
I just realized this would NEVER work for us. Every single person on my father's side (minus the last unwed cousin) is divorced.
Good news is the majority have remarried. Including my Dad & Brother. But I was thinking how all my grandparents are dead and Jim has only his father's mother here in America, his grandfather died.
Well... I had SEVEN grandparents alive at one point or another!! My Mom's side Her mother remarried Her father was murdered (odd cookie scandal.. its true!) So that's THREE on my real mothers side.
My father's side His parents divorced when he was 13 His father remarried (loved his 2nd wife madly) His mother remained single So there's another THREE then you add in my grandfather's mother who died just about 5 years ago at 103!! FOUR
