Can Someone Help Me W/ The Deposit When You Move Out
I am moving next week and I left the $450 deposit but he was telling me I should have the carpets cleaned, but they weren't very clean when we moved in. THey wrote it in our paperwork about them not being very clean. I asked if they would replace them he said most likely. So why would I pay to have them cleaned when they are going to be replaced. I should get my whole deposit back right???

Legally, I don't know the correct answer.
Personally, I think as long as everything is in good condition barring normal wear and tear your deposit should be returned to you.
Good luck.

I think that if the defects (like carpeting being bad) are noted in your lease agreement, as long as it's in the same condition when you move out, you shouldn't have a problem.

OMG, I went through the same thing with my first apartment.
Unless there is considerable damage to the carpeting from the time you moved in until now, you do not need to get the carpets cleaned.

If he asks, tell them you did clean them. I bet he wouldn't even realize you didn't.

You don't have to clean your carpets unless in your lease it says that you are obligated to professionally clean them before you move out, or it will be deducted from your security deposit.

A landlord is only allowed to deduct rent owed from the deposit or the cost of any damages, except for ordinary wear and tear. Unless you bleached his carpet or spilled a ton of stuff on it, sounds like ordinary wear and tear to me.

I cleaned my carpets when my FI and I moved out...they were eight years old when we moved in....I used Empire carpet cleaners and I think it was only like $40 or so dollars for two rooms a hallway and stairs.
