isn't a griddle like a rectangular thing that can stand by itself and you make pancakes on, but a grill pan goes on the stove? like you wouldn't sautee a vegetable in a griddle

i THINK..i am not really up to date on my kitchen lingo, but i think that might be the diff

I think you're right. But usually I just see griddle pans advertised as 'griddles' as well. But I also have both. One to go over the stove and one that plugs in on it's own. I never use the stove one though.

grill pan - had bumps on it like a grill
griddle - flat, so you can make pancakes and stuff like that on!

they both come in electic versions and stove stop ones (usually the stovetop ones are reversable and one side is a grill pan and the other a griddle!)

Ha - FMIL asked for a griddle for x-mas, and FH went to the store and bought her a grill pan! LOL

A griddle is a square flat non-stick pan.

a grill pan is a square pan with bumps (looks like a grill) on it that that usually comes with a cover so you can make paninis and things.
