Bridal Attendant gives you drinks, tends to you and bp alone, helps you out that day and only you, Matre'd is there to help you and your guests at the reception. DOC is kinda a mix of both above but will also coordinate things prior to getting to the hall and after the hall.

The DOC will be at your house before the ceremony, go to the ceremony to make sure everything is set up there and the groom and guys are there and then go to RH while you are taking pictures to set up everything there. Plus all her responsibilites during the reception

Remember a maitre'd is only there at your reception and deals only with things that deal with the reception. A DOC is there at your home while you get ready, is making sure things are running on time and also goes to the church to make sure everything is fine. If a problem comes up with a vendor or any situation occurs then they handle it, a maitre'd wont handle any problems with your vendors. A DOC also helps you before your wedding with things, such as they can pay the final balances for you if you dont have the time, they can distribute the tips and advise you about that too, helping you with your ceremony. Or anything you need help with prior to the day of. A DOC will do your timeline for day of, make sure the whole day is running smoothly, and also gets to the reception early to make sure your tables are set up the way they are supposed to be and everything else
Bridal attendant is by your side the whole day and makes sure everything is fine for you. Getting you your drinks plus the bridal party and parents. Is in the bridal suite with you and gets you whatever you want and helps you with what you need.

Thanks Denise you are always so helpful.
I have another question for anyone - how far in advance should you book one - like if i wanted to wait until later to see if it is in my budget - is that to late??

Our Maitre'D *did* deal with a problem with one of our vendors.. but it was before our ceremony (which was held at our hall) and it was a pretty major screw up. We did not have a DOC
However, the above posters are correct -- they do not normally deal with those types of things and are focused more on your hall's responsibilities.
