Can this year blow any more???

Can this year blow any more???

I really just want to crawl in a ball right now. This year has been probably the worst year of my life so far. Everything that could have gone wrong, has, and as much as I hate to even verbalize it and put it out there in the universe, I'm waiting for a person to die, because that's where it seems it's headed.

So the year started with my eyes getting messed up for 2 months. Then my sister passed out and nearly cracked her head open, and in the process found out she has a thyroid problem. Then my cat died. Then my mother fell down the steps of the Brooklyn Museum and broke her ankle. I almost lost my job. I haven't felt 100% since my bronchitis/ebola virus in the summer. I fight with FH on an every other day basis. So how could it get any worse.

Well, my tooth/upper jaw had been really hurting since Friday, so I was able to see the dentist this morning, and they took xrays. They ruled out a major infection, abcess, or cavity, which is both good and bad news. Good news that I don't have any of those things. Bad news, that they can't pinpoint it and treat it. So....they determined what's causing the pain is that it's my wisdom teeth, which grew in sideways, but hadn't really caused any problems, so they never did anything about it. Now they think they're trying to straighten themselves out, and have no where to go, so that's what causing the pain. Long story short...they're recommending I get all 4 taken out ASAP.

I don't have dental insurance.

FH is MAD at me. He is actually mad at me, because the oral surgeon recommended I get my jaw broken and corrected 10 years ago for my underbite, and while doing that to get the teeth out. He thinks my parents didn't do it then because they would rather have waited until it would be my problem/responsibility. That partly may have been the case, but my parents also didn't have the money back then to take care of it, and it wasn't crucial back then.

So now he wants me to wait 6 months until we're married, and hopefully I can be on his dental at that point to do it. I don't know though. I'm chipmunking out right now. The dentist gave me antibiotics and told me to take motrin, but that is just a reprieve of the symptoms, and will not take care of the root problem, and they said it will reoccur in the future until I get them out. So what if it gets impacted or infected for the wedding, and my face blows up, and then photo and video is a waste????

I don't know what to do anymore, and I'm so frustrated. I'm pissed too because my boss is pissed off at me today, he found a typo in a letter I was working on, BUT the letter was deeply buried in my desk, meaning he was micromanaging and going through my desk early this morning. So needless to say he was not happy with me when I walked right back out the door after coming in, only to return and say, god for-effing-bid, that I will need to take a day or two off in the not so distant future to have surgery. And I got an attitude about it!!!! Because I forgot, the part time admin can go on a week vaca, the OM can take off probably a total of 1.5 months a year, but I'm not allowed to take off EVER even for surgery. I forgot that was in my job description.

Sorry if I'm venting too much or seem like I'm whining to anyone. I just really cannot tolerate this shiz anymore, and I'm truly afraid of what's going to go wrong next.

Can your dentist offer you a short term resolution to this maybe take out one instead of all 4 at once so that it can be cheaper and you won't have to wait until you get insurance?

I'm really sorry you are going thru all of this, much hugs to you

I don't really have advice to you, but I'm sorry!

I do feel your pain, sort of. It seems like everyone around us is falling apart..... 2 weeks ago FH's grandmother had a stroke, then the next day fell and broke a rib. Yesterday my grandmother fell and broke her arm. FH has been having stomach pains all weekend, and today found out it is gall bladder issues and he will prob need surgery. His boss is out all week and he doesn't know if he can get coverage, and he is trying to save up time for our honeymoon.

Everyone is falling apart!!!

Sorry to hear about all your probs! As a dentist, I think you need a second opinion from a general dentist. I kind of don't agree with the story they told you...but FYI I'm pretty sure the jaw surgery is not covered by insurance, at least the one's that I saw during my oral surgery rotation.

Hey..
First . .soooo sorry you are going tihrough all of this stuff. . it's so hard when things just pile up on top of each other. .

re the wisdom teeth. . having had one get impacted AND then infected I would just say to be careful. . I kepy waiting b/c of no insurance and then mine got infect ed and it was so awful. ..

there are some dental schools that will offer great discounts for surgery and they are still all supervised by professors and such. . I had two friends get their wisdom teeth out at NYU dental schools and they had a great exp and SUPER discounted. .

hang in there.. . I think this has been an awful stressful year for so many. . . let's just hope it gets better now!!

All 4 wisdom teeth were impacted and killed me for years I lived through it until finally i decided to grow up and get them out. Long story short it was the absolute worse experience of my life, I was bed ridden for 2 weeks and now have nerve damage and pain much worse than before. F the F-ing dentist. I say see how the antibiotics and motrin work for you and see if you can wait until you are on FH's insurance. I had insurance and it still cost me $500 for anesthesia.. thats **** isn't cheap!

Can you tell I hate the dentist?

and relax and smile. Yes your year hasn't been off to the greatest start but you have many more months of 2009 to go so hopefully it will all turn around.

i recommend going to nyu school of dentistry and getting it taken care of there. its nearly 50% off what a normal dentists office is and just as safe.

Also work out a payment plan. They will work with you.

I am SO sorry Ali!!!!! HUGS for you! If you have a good relationship with your dentist, explain to him the situation and see if possibly- just MAYBE if he can offer you a payment plan.

I was told to get my wisdom teeth out ASAP.........that was in 2003.....and I'm more then fine now , maybe see what the next few days bring and/or get a second opinion.

I have no expertise on the subject whatsoever ....but.. is there a way you could maybe get this covered under your medical insurance?

I completely agree! Trust me, I too have had a mega crap year so I know how you feel..

As for the surgery, I am sorry that this had to happen NOW and not later on when you have FHs insurance. Hopefully it will get better but if not, is there any way you can go on a payment plan with the dentist and pay over time? I understand that these types of procedures can be VERY expensive but half the time dental insurance will only cover half of it (and up to a certain $) anyway.. It's not worth your health to save the money but that is JMO...

I really hope things get better soon! If you need to talk, feel free to FM me!

oh i'm so sorry to hear that things aren't going well for you. maybe your dentist can work out a plan with you since you don't have insurance.

hang in there. things have to look up for you

Re: Can this year blow any more???

So sorry youre going through this. My wisdom teeth were causing me pain 2 years ago and I had them all taken out bc it was getting worse and worse. If you can do it on a payment plan I would recommend you do it before the pain gets worse and before they start making ur other teeth shift.

I was in pain for a total of 3 days and took probably 2 weeks for my jaw to be back to normal. I wouldn't hold off bc it will prob get worse. My brother had them also pulled and he was barely in pain, it really depends how close to the nerve the wisdom teeth are. Mine were practically touching the nerve thats why I felt more pain.

Good Luck, I hope it works out

ps...I know you don't have dental insurance but check if ur insurance covers oral surgery since wisdom teeth pulling are considered surgery since they have to put you under anesthesia.

Re: Can this year blow any more???

Ooo, also check if you are covered for 'dental emergency'. FH has this at least. Since you need surgery and it's causing pain it may be considered an emergency that could be covered.

Thanks girls...

I'm going to see how this week goes with the medicine, and depending on the price and what I can finagle with coverage, take it from there.

Who knows, maybe I'll be married next month
