can we keep the baby bunny??!

Ok, our scavenger of a cat went out last night and came back with an adorable baby bunny in it's mouth, I think her intention was to have it for a late night snack but my husband spotted her walking across the backyard with it and she let it go when my husband screamed at her. So... then again this morning, she befriended (not beheaded) the baby bunny again. Mu husband wants to keep it for the kids (of course after we bring it to the vet) Any thoughts, I know bunnies are cute, but I'd rather buy one from the store than taking a wild one from my yard, it seems more like rodent to me since it was not store bought. What would you do?!!

just take it to the vet and ask around the neighborhood. My mom has bunnied always in her yard, but it turned out they were the neighbors who just let them out like a cat.

If it's a baby...it's mother will not touch it now that the cat had her mouth on it and if the humans have touched it. You might not have a choice!!!

Re: can we keep the baby bunny??!

I found a baby bunny a long time ago in Florida, when I used to visit my Grandmother. She wound up keeping it, when I went back home. This thing grew so big and she never brought it to the vet. It ate bananas, lettuce and carrots. I died at 9 years of age and that's old for a bunny!!

I have 2 bunnies now. One (male) I brought to the vet to have snipped (ouch) and the other I haven't brought at all. I would get it checked out by a vet if it's a wild bunny and it's going to be around kids. A word of warning, most vets charge 50 bucks just to look at the bunny. Make sure if you do keep it, to give it Timothy (hay), it helps their digestive system and baby bunnies shouldn't eat veggies right away~that's what my vet said. Good Luck!!

Stefanie!! They are soooo cute!!! We have four adult bunnies living all over our front yard and just started noticing a little one!!!

DH wants to kill me because I keep putting out carrots or lettuce. They never eat it anyway, just our GRASS!

I have a friend that is looking to give away her dh's two rabbits. Now with a ds, the bunnies are toooooooo much work. They love them, but they really need a family that could give them more time. Any takers? The family lives in Forest Hills.

I was looking up info on wild bunnies awhile back - didn't save the sites, but a search might turn up info.

What I found is that there are wild bunnies, and then there are the domesticated bunnies that have been turned loose and they are very different. They said if you find a sick or wounded wild bunny and bring it in to a cage it will most likely die of fright because they can't handle the stress of captivity. I think if it was a domesticated breed it would do OK.

Please take it ......your cat must want you to have it and your kids will be delighted ...store bought doesn't mean a thing as long as you take it to the vet!!!!!

Yes I think as long as you take it to the vet, it should be fine if you keep it.
