cater a rehearsal dinner and have it at your house? me & fh were talking about this yesterday, we have to pay for it, we were thinking of just doing something simple for the over 20 people that would be there. What do you guys think?

Re: Can you.........
you can totally have a RD at home....i have been to a few of them and they were great (not tacky at all!!)! We wanted to do this, but we just don't have the space we would need. My thing is I want my RD to be more relaxed since the wedding is more formal. I think its a great idea!

Re: Can you.........
I didn't vote b/c I would say NO WAY, but not because its tackey, I just think that you are going to have so many other things going on the night before that you would be too stressed out to have a dinner party at your house.

Re: Can you.........
We are having ours catered at my parents house and we will probably pay for it or split it with my parents. I want the RD to be relaxed and fun so I felt having it there would be the perfect place.

Re: Can you.........
I think that is a nice idea, if you and FH are paying for it why not.
FH and I are debating whether to have a dinner because of money issue. Some family members said we have to have one. I don't know if its really a big thing to have one. What do you think?

We're just having an old fashioned bbq at FIL's house. It's inexpensive and definitely the mood we want, relaxed and fun!

Re: Can you.........
When my brother got married they did it at the house because they wanted everyone to be able to hang out and not be rushed out of the restaurant.
They kept it very simple. We just had a few hot dishes and a hero.
It was actually very nice and relaxing.

Re: Can you.........
I would have it at home if my mom was into it...she just thinks there will be too much else to worry about the night before. Bummer...thought it would be a good way to have a relaxed night!

Re: Can you.........
It's a nice idea. My brother and SIL did this, and it was more like a party than a dinner. Lots of fun! They didn't cater it either, they cooked, and everyone brought dishes, and they bbq'd.

Re: Can you.........
I think that as long as you have adequate space in your home for your guests to sit together for dinner and it won't make you too frazzled to have all of those people over right before the wedding you should go for it.

Re: Can you.........
a former friend of mine had it at her house, it was very relaxed and we all helped them clean up after so they wouldnt have to do it by themselves

FH and I were thinking the same thing. We love to BBQ and host parties and what better way in a relaxed setting. I'm not sure yet though

Re: Can you.........
I actually thought the rd was suppose to be at your FILs house. I would think it would be more personal that way. If your paying, money is tight, and one of your families are happy to allow you to use their home or use your own. Do it. Don't worry about much. People do go to RD for anything but to see you two and to share your happiness.

I agree...
if your home can accomodate everyone, then go for it!

Re: Can you.........
my parents want to do it at my house and dont 'think it will be too hectic if things are organized right. i felt like, 'okay, whatever, it's up to you!' my house is spacious enougha nd i think it'll be more fun and relaxed than a restaurant for us and possibly less stressful to do a catered event at home.

Re: Can you.........
If there is enough room, and you don't think it would be too stressful to entertain people in your home so close to the wedding - go for it!! My house would NEVER hold that many people!

Re: Can you.........
I love the idea of having the rd dinner at home however it as too much of a hastle for my family however the night before my wedding my parents had a small catered night of italian food for me, dh, my bros their significant others, my sister and my family and friends. It was so wonderful just being at home with everyone and enjoying the food, and most importantly not having to get dressed up or anything. I loved that day so much!
