Is it ever too much to get excited and use it everywhere? Is it overkill?

Re: Can you ever go overboard with a theme?
UH HUH I went to a wedding once where the bride had a butterfly theme-they had MOOCHO moola sooo there were butterflied themed knicknacks EVERYWHERE! They hung from the ceiling, the centerpieces were birdcages with wheathrass and butterflies inside, they covered the cake. Real ones were realeased during the ceremony. The backs of the chairs were covered in sheer material where butterflies crawled up 9fake ones), the linens had butterflies on them, the bride and groon serving dishes. There were faux butterflies in her bouquet, all of the BMS and the flower girls. The flower girl had ribbons the color of butterfly wings in her hair and her dress was embroidered with butterflies...
You get the picture. It was overkill. The ones from the ceiling and the huge trees in the corner covered in butterflies could have been nixed. Soemtimes less is more. It's a wedding, folks , not a shrine. Focus should be on you and the hubby.

Re: Can you ever go overboard with a theme?
Well I hope my Yankees theme won't seem as ridiculous as the butterfly theme! Man, that's laughable!
So, this is what I'm doing: --Colors are navy and white - BM dresses are navy with white sash --I'll carry white flowers with splashes of dark blue. (haven't decided on other flowers yet but we could incorporate other colors) --instead of ribbon wands, everyone will wave navy and white penants --Tables named after players --Placecards will be 'tickets' attached to pretty bags filled with peanuts and cracker jack (I've seen this done in a Martha Stewart magazine and it can be really elegant!) --Invites will most likely have a navy accent (whether it be in a navy wrap, or navy lettering, navy ribbon...)
This is when it hit me....is it too much to have a white cake with navy pinstripes (spaced out and looking more elegant than a uniform of course), with possibly a design reminiscent of the facade from the stadium going around the top layer? Is this taking it too far? It might be so subtle that many people might not even 'get it' but....I dunno. I just wonder.
Thanks everyone!

Re: Can you ever go overboard with a theme?
Oh pft. You guys are doing a theme the way it should be done. That is nowhere near too much. Love the idea of the cake. We don't have a 'theme' per say, just colors; red, hot pink and orange (gerber daisy colors) so we are putting those colors all around. Our cake is going to be three tiered and funky looking with polka dots. As long as you dont have your bridal party come out in yankee uniforms lol you should be good. Really like the pennant idea too. Personalizes it.

Although I am more likely to have a blue and orange theme , I really really like your ideas and don't think its overboard at all.

Re: Can you ever go overboard with a theme?
I know this post is a little older, but I just read it. That is the cutest thing and it sounds VERY tastefully done the way you are doing it. I especially love the whole tickets...peanuts and Cracker Jacks, etc. idea...great ideas and so unique! I would love to see a picture of the cake you envisioned if you do it. (And all this coming from a Mets fan! ) Love it, good for you!
